Top car cleaner - shampoo?

Bought my new motor a couple week back.

Although it needs a new rear wiper, i'm sure it doesn't need front ones also. They look ok.

Although, when i use the screen wash, or it rains, it's not good at all. Tiz like the windscreen has been covered in layers of polish. It has that annoying effect to it.

Haven't actually washed it yet, but i'm guessing it'll need a good bit of ol' elbow grease.
I've always bought cheapo stuff in the past. Is that likely to work, or should i buy something specific that'll strip all layers down on the winscreen & get rid of any film?

Thanks.

Re: Top car cleaner - shampoo?

£30 seems a bit excessive. lol. I'll have a butchers at the AG shampoo though

What's AG's engine bay degreaser or whatever it's called like?

Whenever i see threads talking of engine bay degreasing, AG's product has never been mentioned. Is it not that good?

I don't want to be paying top dollar for an average, or even top dollar product. Something that does a decent job is good enough for me.

thats not expensive, its less than paying for a full respray if you scratch your car to bits with inapropriate cloths mitts ect,

How much are a set of wipers

halfrauds do a Glass cutter (in the area of teh screen washes) this is a fine paste in a small bottle with a free cloth you rub this on and polish it with a clean micro fibre cloth this removes everything from the glass including rainX and the like...

Hi,
If your worried about the vinegar smell add some lemon juice to it.
That's what the hire companies do, so I'm told.
I always use newspaper.

Re: Top car cleaner - shampoo?

Used vinegar & warm water yesterday. Did the inside & then the outside & the cak that was on the wipers & damn there was a lot.

Still getting streak marks on the windscreen though when i use the washers. I'm suspicious about what's in there though. On an Escort, is there any way to drain it, other than say, sticking a hose in there & letting it overspill?

What's that paste you were talking about as i had a look on the Halfords site & can't see what you mean. I have AG Glass Polish at the mo

Re: Top car cleaner - shampoo?

I take it Kevin your asking about a Ford Escort on a FIAT forum

Only kidding

if you look at the washer bottle there is a black pump mounted close to the bottom that is pushed into a rubber grommit give it a wiggle and a tug and it (the pump) should unclip and slip out of the rubber and pull out allowing the water to drain....

you can then unpick the rubber from the bottle and on the Escort it is more like a cap with fine holes which filter **** out of the water to save the pump and jets from becoming blocked.. clean this out

I wont suggest this but my mate put about 1/2 a bottle of bleach in his work van to kill the green sludge that was in the pump/ bottle/ pipes it had lovely white (it was a white van) clean streaks on the van roof until it was written off

the halfords glass cutter is in a small 25ml bottle with a screw top costs about £5 you put it on with a lot of rubbing and buff it off with a clean cloth

The AutoGlym car shampoo is on offer in our local motor factors with 100% extra free ive stocked up
