| Black GP Sporting | Re: new car and polishing hiya mate, personally, i dont think the diamond bright is worth a w a n k!! i picked my car up tuesday morning, washed it tuesday night using some mer shampoo and conditioner, then spent all dayd wednesday polishing it. i used meguiars liquid gold class wax and then went over it with auto glym extra gloss protection (egp) the egp gave fantastic results on the crossover black, although it is a little dusty. yesterday i set about painting the brake callipers, and the car was extemely dusty, so this morning i washed it again, but this time i used meguiars gold class car shampoo which, has again, left some excellent results even though its not sunny at all here today. this afternoon once it has dried a little more (all the seals and water traps etc) i will set about waxing it with auto glym srp (super resin polish) and then give it another coat of the egp, then i will probably wash it again sunday evening as i am going to see a mate on monday so he can fit me a few things in the car and i want it to be looking its best. maybe wash it again at the end of next week and put another coat of wax on it, and hopefully seal it again with the egp and that should see it right for the waxing side of things for a month. thats just what i would do, i don't know if its right or wrong, but imo it works for the car and why change it? hth

| Re: new car and polishing i didnt wash my car for about 3months after i bought it lol it was shiny enough when i picked it up so there was no point really. on the point of cleaning/polishing, what do you use to wipe off the water once its been washed? i use a chamois but it just leaves it all smeary, what can i do to stop this?

| Black GP Sporting | Re: new car and polishing right, the general one to go for is a microfibre cloth... but i use a vileda synthetic leather type thingy... leaves the paint work looking great, then i just go around it with a microfibre cloth to buff out any water marks left and shown up by the black paintwork.

| Re: new car and polishing I guess polishing is one thing and waxing is another. Hopefully you won't need to polish (i.e. a slightly abrasive compound like Meguiar's Step 2) if you've handwashed the car carefully. This being so, I see no harm is using waxes and / or sealants like Autoglym EGP. However, sometimes I've had to polish new paint and had no adverse effects. When I bought second hand cars I used to spend ages and ages polishing then waxing the paint to get the soft feel to the bodywork...with a new car it's about maintaining it!
