Advice needed,I've had to replace my exhaust manifolds three times, the first time I thought it just need replacing, then the second time one mechanic said it was probably a faulty manifold so it was covered by the warrenty, but then it went again,so I took it to a different mechanic,he said it was a engine mount that needed replacing that's why it was damaging the manifold,so he fixed it and it was running great, but now just two months later the manifold has gone again,I don't want to get rid of the car because I love it please help, its a fial bravo 2007 16v active 90.

Can you get under the car with a bar and try pushing the gearbox rear mount - its called a rear engine stabiliser mount.

Looks like this ^^ - i had a stilo 1.2 and went through 4 manifolds and it turned out to be this stabiliser mount, it was allowing the whole gearbox and engine to rock and it was causing strain on the manicat (manifold with built in cat)...

Thanks for the reply,I'll tell the garage on monday to check,I'll let you know how I get on,don't want to trade it in as it's been a little belter, cheers m8?

No worries dude... the rubber on my mount had completely shot. The bolt into the subframe was also seized... it snapped and the garage had to do about an hours work to fix it... they charged me a tenner as they thought it was going to be easy and quoted me for a 15min job on the ramps... i already knew it was gonna snap as the garage who noticed it was this part at fault had already tried to get it off but nothing worked... anyhow... get the bolts sprayed with penetrating fluid and give it some whacks with an hammer before taking it to the garage... if its that part then the above will help when the garage come to whipping it off.

Thats brilliant news mate - i'm so glad you got it sorted.
Now - one question springs to mind and I asked the garage who finally noticed what it was on mine.

How come they never noticed this when they removed the manicat in the first place - the engine would have swung back a bit and they would have to use a long tall tripod jack to swing it back to bolt up the new manicat to the flexi at the beginning of the mid section - god knows how they missed that on 3 manicat replacements, the 3rd time round with a new one they finally spotted it.

Anyhow - very glad you got it sorted and they didnt snap the bolt.

This mechanic is a old friend,I'm sticking with hI'm in the future, and blanking the other two garages.
??

Its hard to find very thorough garages now a days, i had one rebuild one corner on my old stilo after it was stolen and hit the side of a lamp post... they charged me £550 for parts and labour and still didnt see the drive shaft was bent and the top mount was shot... so more money on labour and parts.

I spent £3k nearly all in all owning that car for 3yr...

Now i do as much as possible with the help of a retired hgv mechanic guiding me along and provide the space and tools.

So far.. i have only spent money on this newer stilo when i had wheels fitted, tyres, tracking twice and a c.v boot doing... less than £200 in labour.. and ive done around £500 worth work in garage time myself so i have saved a bit... and have piece of mind as i am thorough and so is my friend :)

No way,my old friend who did this job,was a ex HGV mechanic,he's been really good,Im sticking with him,he's old skool,I get mates rates, which is a bonus,he's sorted out loads of jobs they missed,& only charged me for parts,he did work on the gear box too,& replaced a broken rear spring,it's driving mint now,so pleased I don't have to trade it in,booked in for a full interior valet now I'm keeping it.???

I was quite attached to my old stilo and sold her for £300 in end... but she was loved and cared for appropriately and still lives with a polish fiat lover... hgv mechanics tend to be more thorough in my opinion ;) ive got lots of work planned after winter and some during winter i think (hun bearings etc) then flying colours for mot
