Hi,

I get the check engine light coming on (flicker then on full) when cornering left only but no low oil pressure light and no fault codes stored in ECU. Has anyone had this happening when the pickup filter is blocked in the sump? when i got the car the oil/filter were manky and it hadn't been serviced for ages.
now the car is running great but i don't want to drop the sump unless I'm sure this could be the problem as it looks a nightmare to do after reading e-learn.
As recommended by a local mechanic i used 5w30 but fiat recommend 5w40 but it was happening before the oil change.

I wouldn't use an engine flush product , they can cause problems.
My recommendation is change oil and filter and then change again after 500 or so miles.
If you recently obtained car and changed oil and filter when you got it change it again.
Good luck

cheers for the replies,

because the engine could have been neglected for years before I bought it I am wary of using engine cleaner in case there is lot of sludge in the sump.

Could the check engine light be due to some oil starvation turning left on this engine?

Yes, it can happen that the pick-up is blocked with sludge and crap.
This happens because improper oil i used i.e. not synthetic rated for long life, but then they keep it in use for the time/miles recommended by Fiat for the car/engine.
The oil degrades, breaks down and forms something similar to plastic pieces in the motor.

A friend has recently purchased a T-jet Bravo with low oil ... he tried running engine flush.. did not work..
He eventually pulled the sump... 75% was blocked by oil crap/sludge. Cleaned it and most what he could see/reach. The car is not on the road yet because of other problems, but he did start the engine and left it to idle.. and he says there is no more oil pressure light.
Only real life testing will tell, when the oil has a few thousands of km on it and goes thinner with ages/use/heat .. that will be the true test.

The oil pressure light is not coming on just the yellow check engine light flickering then on full the tighter/faster the left turn then check engine is displayed on the dash and most sensor readouts on multiecuscan go to zero.
Still not sure if it is oil related as no dtc code is stored. Only code to randomly appear is U1602 on the body computer but again i aint sure if it is related to the turning left fault.

I don't believe check engine light has anything to do with oil pressure.
U1602 code is for can bus error which will cause check engine light on.
Sounds like it's possibly a poor connection somewhere in wiring loom or poor earth connection.

U1602 can also be caused by the interface you use to connect to the ecu. some will cause CAN communications errors.
Clear the errors, then try again... the error might be caused when connecting or disconnecting ( especially if the key is on ACC).
The errors might also have a time/date stamp of when they were triggered.

Agreed with what jackwhoo said earlier, oil pressure will not cause your check engine light.

A loose connection, bad sensor, water in diesel, clogged filter..etc will.

U1602 does not appear everytime the check engine light comes on turning left so might be another problem.
The faster and tighter the turn the worse it is, best way to describe it is its like a traction control light flickering when starting to skid but my car aint got traction control or a yaw sensor, thought it might be electric steering torque sensor but aint sure if that would bring up the CE light. Been checking for dodgy wires and earths for months now. :bang:

Ignore it till it comes on properly or you could go a bit bonkers!
