Hi everyone, was looking for a bit of reassurance please. Have just fitted new front struts to my t-jet sport (which cost a fortune by the way) however on lowering car back on the ground have found the top plates are about 1/4 inch higher than the turrets. Not sure if this is what it was like before I started! IMG_1034.JPG

Any advice greatly received [emoji4]

Did you renew the rubber pad that fits between the strut bearing and inner wing?

Is the gap exactly the same both sides?
Did you accidentally use the same type of nut that's on top of the outer plate under the outer plate?
They are different or meant to be different.

Nope used the correct nuts and threw away the old top nuts and used the new ones supplied. I even counted the thread when reassembling the new strut to check it was the same as the originals.

Ok reassurance time, I think it's fine.
If it's the same side to side even more so.
The gap between top plate and wing will only close up if the wheel leaves the ground.

Phew! Thanks Jackwhoo thought I was going to have to strip it all down again. Cheers [emoji4]

No problem.
Same as other manufacturers similar set ups with rubber/metal pad under inner wing that is not retained by nuts or bolts.
The top plate is just to stop it all dropping too low when front jacked up , changing a wheel for instance.
If the rubber / metal pad gets tired with age the gap at top between plate and wing can get bigger and wheel camber can be affected by age too.
Worth remembering if have camber problem.

If you jack your car up and then turn steering , return steering to original position before lowering .
This is in order rubber pad stays aligned correctly with it's pocket in inner wing

Nothing to try , just remember if you do jack front up, either don't turn steering or jack it up with steering straight ahead and make sure steering is at straight ahead before lowering jack.

I'm probably being excessively cautious.

Magnetti Marelli the genuine article direct from fiat Italy at great expense [emoji1]

£208 the pair, apparently it's fiats new classic range to help keep older cars on the road.

A classic already , wow, I must be an antique!

Price could have been worse but yes considerably more than smaller engined models.

Have no idea what postage rates are but try fiatdalys.Lt
if you need any other genuine fiat parts ,may be worth checking. I use their site for parts diagrams that are too new for eper.

Will check that out as I'm after a new set of headlights in the near future. Thanks
