I've still got a worrying sound when driving and engaging the clutch for a few seconds I hear a loud rattling sound that soon tapers off after 2 seconds of so from behind the pedal area engine bay.
Worse still if you sit with it out of gear driving or stationary and half engage the clutch a rev it the sound continues until you fully engage or release the clutch but in time with the revs IE it goes faster when revving higher.
I've had different people suggest the release bearing or the slave or master cylinder…I'm swaying more to the release bearing.

Clutch itself appears ok, I notice the bite point occasionally changes however I'm not sure if its me but seems to adjust itself after a short period of time!?
Car is on nearly 80,000 miles now on the original clutch so a change wouldn't harm I guess.

Any thoughts?

Yes it is almost certainly the clutch release bearing.
When you decide you want to fix it ,get a clutch kit. replace all the parts in the kit ie cover plate, friction plate and release bearing .
Don't just change the bearing.

Thanks Jackwhoo

I'm sorry I ever saw your reply. I just occurred to me I registered using my old business e-mail address and haven't been getting any e-mails at all.

Yes I think you are right. The noise is getting worse. Now when you sit either in or out of gear and dip the Cluth about half way the rattling is so loud. Here is a audio clip I recorded today. The rattle goes when the clutch is either fully dipped up or down. What do you think? Is it about to go bang?

Thanks
Si

So I had the clutch and central slave/release bearing replaced - £440!!
The release bearing had completely - couldn't believe I even drove it to the garage like it. The friction disc was also very worn and needed doing.
Car now drives great and pedal is so light it's great. However....once the engine is warm I can still hear a slight rattle when I dip the clutch pedal and change up. I wondering if this is just normal now?
