Hi

after stupidly knocking a drink over into the factory stereo and breaking it, then bending the pins trying to get it out....

i finally got it out and decided to buy a cheap 2nd hand JVC - R601 off ebay. excellent condition fully working ...

so ordered all the bits can to fit it and it wouldn't turn on plugging the car loom directly into the stereo loom. so ordered a loom fro ebay but the pin out was exactly the same (not sure if i ordered the correct one)

so searched google for wiring out of the car loom but its not very clear, i messed about with the pins on the stereo loom and manage to get power to it but the stupid thing won't turn on (even though it lights up when i press the display button.

any help would be great. better description of the car loom or anybody got one of these stereo's

which i'd of bought a like for like now lol.

If the wiring is like the stilo - it has permanent 12v feed and can be turned on when the key is off and not in the ignition.

You say it lights up, i think you have the 12v memory power feed connected to the constant live, this is ok to store your radio stations etc but not to power up the unit fully.

You will need to also connect the 12v switched wire, this would usually go to the accessory 12v feed, my stilo does not have this option, it has a constant feed only - its a quick job to fit a switched 12v from the acc on the ignition wiring but its not an issue for me.

I have a bullet connector with female holes coming from the loom on my stereo, one for the memory (meant to be constant fed) and one for powering up and using the stereo, they are both connected to the same constant feed so i have memory and i can power it up, igntion on and off does not affect operating the stereo, only when the starter motor kicks in the stereo powers off and back on automatically - due to the battery drain which is normal when cranking your engine.

You will have two 12v wires on your loom, one red and one yellow.
Disconnect one - if it still shows power but not switching on, connect that wire you have disconnected to the other wire that it still connected and it will have the same feed and should power up :)

Also, most iso looms have bullet connectors for this reason so it can switched depending on car make / model and what feeds you have.

thanks guys thought it was something to do with the red and yellow. will give it a go

You need +12v permanent- Memory and +12v switched -Power.
Factory HU uses CAN network for the power.

You will need to find a switched power source HU power pin (maybe from the 12v soket)..

He should be ok to use the same source for the memory feed as the switched wire, that's how my stilo is powered up.

Let us know how you get on as I will soon be owning a bravo so interesting to know.

It will be enough, but might forget turning the stereo off.. so will kill the battery.

Hello,

i connected it from the cigarette lighter.. it is 10 minute job. Now the radio starts with ignition and turns off same way.
