Hi all,

I want to know what the black box on the picture is. I have a 2009 Fiat Bravo 1.6mjet and its developed lil oil leak around it. Also i feel like DPF regen is on every 100km or so is that normal or should that take place in bigger intervals?

Regen takes place at least that frequently if the system is working right. SO I am told by the main dealer.

I have just been to look at mine and don't know what the black thing is. I wonder if its an oil cooler. Odd if it is though as its plastic.

Sure it's oil and not water? It's part of the EGR valve cooler and i've changed loads of these on Vauxhall Insignias' which use the same engine. You used to have to buy a complete EGR cooler but the black plastic part is available seperately, certainly from Vauxhall or on e-bay.

Now believe this to be an EGR cooler water filled, and also that they are not unknown to fail. Not to bad to fix cost wise as available on the internet.

Its like black soot spewing out, cant really tell if its oil or water mixed with diesel soot. If i blank the egr will this part no longer play the issue or will i need to replace it anyway? If i dont what can go wrong?

Shouldn't be occurring that often. Should be nearer 150-350 miles depending upon age and use of the filter and type of driving the car is doing.

100km is only 62 miles approx and is far to regular tbh from experiences I had with my old 1.6 Bravo.
