I have just bought the Gendan engine / ODB software and at £126 it will be paid for after 1 service! It works fine straight out of the box and seems to cover just about anything / everything you could need. \it covers all Fiats Alfas and some Chryslers and Suzuki's.

I plugged the Bravo in to see whats what before my last service with Fiat (for the Guarantee) and found 1 fault. It seems to notice I was coasting down hill the other day with the engine off....

It tells me the particulate filter operated 194 times in the first 20K miles and 0 times in the last 26K miles. I think this is down to driving styles and types we will have to see. The oil is at 5% of its life after 21K miles so I feel OK at having this done at service. All the other parameters of the engine are within 0.5 or less of requirement so spot on. I will be looking again after FIAT have been involved and it had better not be worse!

From what I can see the software is a worthwhile purchase and it tells be what I want to know and allows re setting of the service indicator. Gendan staff have been very helpful and I recommend them and the product without reservation at this stage. www.Gendan.co.uk

I also checked the Panda 100HP and it tells me I have over revved it 94 times totalling 60.24 seconds. Oooops.

No faults in the memory. I will be interested to see what the ABS sensors read when I have time to have a look.

Hi @petercresswell
Exactly what package did you buy? Gedan sell many products.
While you do get a "one-stop-shop" with them, you can get a solution for much less by shopping around. Multiecuscan is €50 (£30) direct from the maker and a ELM327 from known ebay seller (UK Diagnostics ebay item 271275445368 ) is £20 so less than half the cost. For some modules and older cars you may need adaptors and a KKL interface which would add another £20.

When you say the oil is at 5% of it's life, is that oil DEGREDATION at 5% or at 95%?
The degritaion works in reverse, 5% degredation is worn out, 95% degredation is hardly used. How many times has the engine oil change (not service reset) been carried out? The figures sound a bit iffy to me, like the ECU is preventing DPF regenerations because of oil conditions, but you should have a warning for that. This assumes its the mJTD engine of course.

The oil is 95% worn out and due for a change. Normally and from now on it will be done when 75% worn. There are no warnings / no fault in the ECU, no warning lights either. I have also tested all the warning lights for correct operation.

My driving is pretty gentle and mostly (95%) motorway at 58-70mph. I average 64mpg like clockwork and have seen 86.5mpg on one 200 mile trip while trying. This is the sort of speed that should generate the least particulates and keep the engine at temperatures to burn them off. I am going to keep a close eye on the dash to see if / when the particulate filter purges its self. I have put in a few short bursts at speed for 5 to 10 miles to try and encourage the dpf to do its thing. I will update the forum if there are any issues or developments.

P.S. The oil has been done 2 or times to date and this will be the fourth if my service charges are honest..... I have always changed the oil on my cars frequently in the past and have always wondered if it was worthwhile. Personally I think if the oil is >50% degraded it is time for it to go, but I suppose good oils should maintain good performance within their specified range. Question is do I trust Fiat to set parameters for oil changes to my advantage or theirs....... Actually that is self answering. Back to changing the oil at half their interval which seems to be at 10 -12 K miles.

In answer to the question about what the package is, its a full version of the software on its own stick, 12 months license with upgrades, VAGCOM/ Kline and OBDlink cables with an extension USB lead and a full set of adapter cables for airbags, ABS etc and in a carry case. It allows for parts that have to self learn and for proxy alignment where required. In addition to spitting out the codes it gives more specific information on exactly what the code is referring to and what needs doing. From past experience just getting the error code if often of little practical use as for example on our Seat a fault with the throttle body sensor was shown up by a code indicating a problem with the brake pedal sensor. I am still trying to work that one out. VW wanted something like £300 for a new throttle body. What was really required was some sensible cleaning of the offending part with proprietary cleaner and soft cloth Its running perfectly again at 2% of the cost.

One thing interesting I have noted is that the ECU sees the car mileage as 1000 miles less than the milometer. The software recognises the actual reading but has a lower value calculated from its various sources. It makes you wonder what to believe.

You could have gotten a double DIN unit w/ Android base that has ODB capabilities for just a bit more.
