Hi all
Due to the high cost of 7 years of fiat service my 2008 1.6 multijet needs a change I intend to service and change the camshaft belt with the help of a friend. The car has been very reliable 80k. Can anyone give me any advice P.S this was one of the first imported into the county to a private buyer
Pete

I would not attempt this without the proper cam locking tools. This forum is littered with posts from people who've had belts changed and the timing is then found to be 'out'. And even garages get this wrong. You have been warned...

thanks for all the help all done now total cost all parts £320 for camshaft kit aux belt and full service parts note the mjet has a strenthed water pump .
now for mot pete

Designed to lock the cams in place during the belt change, so the timing doesn't shift...
HI,

You don't need any locking Tools to change the time belt.
I did it this year and it is very easy to do.
The main thing to do is not turning cranckshaft and cams shaft when time belt is undone .

Which is exactly what a lot of people on here have tried to do (without locking tools) and wonder why their engine doesn't run right thereafter (or worse).

I'm sure it's possible to do without tools, but I've been on this Forum for nearly 10 years and you'd be surprised the number of DIYers (and garages!) that make a pigs ear of a Stilo belt change.

Just my five penn'orth...

I did this way for ten or fifteen times without any problems since 20 years ...
May be I am a superman or other peoples have two left hands...

Thanks. I do know what locking tools are. Maybe I should have asked more specifically.

Can anyone let me know what locking tools are needed to change my 1.6 diesel bravo cam belt. I have locking tools for the 1.9 engine which also say they do the 1.6 and 2.0. Is there anything else required? (I havent looked at the engine yet, I'm assuming the 1.6 d is different from the 1.9 d as the oil filter is in a different place? ).

Hi,

Do your own marks (on pulleys and in front fix ones) before undoing timming belt and you won't need any locking Tools at all...
