Hello I wonder if any techs can point me in the right direction. I got into my Bravo 2008 and the stereo, dual air con unit have gone blank. I checked fuses and number F39 is blown and keeps blowing each time i replace it. I have removed the stereo as this was the last thing i repaired and it seems to be on this circuit but worryingly so is many other things which for me seem to be working still i.e the remote opener etc I did think that the car was a bit dodgy when i tried to unlock it with the remote but i re locked and then unlocked it prior to it going wrong. Also the mileage on the dash is permanently flashing which is quite odd. Please help I cannot bare giving my hard earned money to Fiat again. They just changed the plugs and reset the service warning for me for £95. Also the manual says i have an alarm on this circuit which i dont think i have, should i ? this is a top spec tjet with every extra possible, never heard an alarm before.

Damn its got worse each turn of the key, I have seen warning lights of all kinds come up ESP , Hill start failure, check engine is now on permanently. The car has had a fit of sorts and is now unable to work properly at all. All this since i drove home with no dual climate or stereo and has turned into warning lights from hell scenario. Fuses still blowing and OBDII diag port powerless so cannot even read fault codes.:(

Hi,
look in the mechanically similar Grande Punto section, GM / FIAT joint ventures:rolleyes:

this is a reasonably common occurence ( corrosion is fuseboard..??)https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto/419228-2007-grande-punto-lights-flashing-airbag-fault-2.html

power supply to the vehicles electronics is critical..
however generally if You're blowing fuses you have a more basic issue, look for melted wiring..!!

where are you / the car based..?,

I am Kent based, and which of the fuse boards should i be looking at, i assume under the bonnet one. Saying that the one in the boot has a bit of powdery looking corrosion going on. However the fuse that keeps blowing is the F39 which basically is air con, stereo, TPMS and my favourite the OBDII port which mean si cannot test it. I shall read that link now and let you know but thx for your help Charlie :)

excuse me for being daft but only finding alternator issues that sound similar but not blown fuse repeatedly and cannot find GM / joint ventures i am not very forum savvy so need explanaing to :)

the later Punto are a joint venture with GM,
the dash wiring is half the price from Vauxhall than FIAT..,
your Bravo is a similar thing..,;)

TBH - I would turn off ALL the things powered by that fuse,
then one at a time turn them back on,
see at what point the fuse "blows",
try and trace the wiring to that component.

common issues,
heater/ fan wiring - any odd things with it or does it function perfectly..??

tailgate / rear light electrics,
wiring can fracture from tailgate opening + closing,
passengers doors too.. - but less common,

IF you struggle, get a local "Auto Electrician" ,
they will be expert - find the fault in minutes, and charge less per hour than FIAT,
good luck,
do let us know what you find,:)

ah thanks for explaining. Th efuse is the dreaded F39 which has so many things bundled onto it. Worse is the CanPort(OBDII) so i cannot test for anything. I have disconnected all but the TPMS and the Electrics for the air con. I do not have a a heater as such but the dual climate instead. I did look at the tailgate wires as to be honest i jumped out of the car locked it and before getting back in remotely opened the boot/tailgate and shut it again before getting in and finding the power loss. I have booked a local electrician at £45 per hour who confidently says he will solve it within that hour. Fingers crossed its not the aircon unit :) thx Charlie you are one of the few to respond.

Electrician could not determine what exactly was causing the issue, he suspects the BCM which is an expensive 'maybe' I only paid for an hour of his time so may have to bite the bullet and go for more as Fiat are not an option with their prices. I have changed the battery as many said it was related which i doubted but the original equip unit i still had (8yrs) tested at only 79% which if you ask me is amazing and far from dead. I still have the same problems and no further forward :( anyone had any experince at having modules reprogrammed to suit their car. i.e cloned

ELectrician came again today and discovered some bad wires. The green/red cable from the stereo head unit is ok at the head end but down by the body control unit where it is slightly thinner it has mellted. This has caused the problem, and now i am having to chase the cable through the loom, it disappears up the main loom under the glovebox somewhere, I will have to follow it until i find the other end of it as it has taken out an adjoining cable too causing the short. I am damn glad he found it and it is not the bullet proof module ;) however running new cables is going o be hard too. I need some advice on the wiring and have the elearn manual but it is a bit vague. Anyone got experience with the loom/electrics can help ? ALso the cause seems to be the head unit which internally has browned on the circuit board. I know i fixed the display going blank issue two weeks before and is related but i didnt do anything untoward just re flowed the contacts on the coupling. I am also now out of pocket to the sum of £150 so far so am not able or prepared to upgrade the stereo yet, a second hand but good original will have to do. Good news with a hint of bad :(

Update : The entire dash came out and the roof lining dropped. As its a skydome model this was interesting, whilst in there looking around i discovered the cause of the wiring fault that burntout and damaged both the loom and the BCU. During the cars build some live wires had been trapped under the brackets holding down the skydome panels. They were crushed under a sharp pressed steel bracket causing a short. This eventually tunred into a full blown short somehow and melted everything. I had to resolder tracks in the BCU and rewire two very long cables, insulating the loom again and fitting anti crush conduit to the roof lives. Took me 20 hours total but now you can aske me anything about removing a dashboard, and everysingle bloody wire in the car :)
