Hi there,

So last night and this morning whilst driving from and to work, the engine temperate gauge went all the way to the top! :( It then kept going lower (still very high) and then back to the top, so that the red light was showing.

I put my heaters on full blast, which after a couple of minutes seemed to reduce the gauge. It then kept going low, high, low high.

I'm not sure if the sensor is dodgy, as when I was on a flat piece of road, it seemed to return to normal.

Please help!!!!

Check All yoUr hoses that carry coolant , could simply be a split pipe. You need to get a pressure test done on the system. Not worth driving it as it could be a cracked cylinder head or head gasket and could wreck your engine. I have a corroded hose on mine, the one above the gear box, I noticed because the pink coolant pooled on top of it

Thanks. When I turn the heating on to full blast, it only blows out cold air too. Could this be a sign of anything inparticular?

Could be head gasket ? a pressure test on the system will show if it's that, or could be thermostat. If you've not got the tools to do it yourself just get to a garage, probably only an hours labour to diagnose it

Oh dear, is a head gasket usually an expensive job?

Just got it booked in to the garage tomorrow.

im not sure, if it is the head then could be looking into the hundreds :(

And yet no one suggested to just check coolant level and top up whatever you are going to do later or tomorrow.

•First check level with engine cold.
•Top up with coolant.
(Of Course you have to bleed from the radiator but anyway)

•Let it idle or go for a ride.
Top up again if needed.

•Inspect for leaks on every coolant hose, radiator, thermostat, pump, heater core etc.

...........

If there is coolant inside the tank open the cap and start the engine.

If you can still see coolant that means there is no air all over the block etc but maybe you have a broken pump.

Yep, I would check the coolant first, but no harm in taking to a garage if you can't spot anything obvious.

Taking it to garage this afternoon, but it seems that the engine heats up and the warning light comes on whenever I go up a hill! As soon as I'm on a flat or downhill, it goes back to normal. Strange....

Yes, the radiator fan is working. I wondered if it was a sensor of some sort

so, it turns out that it's a faulty fuse box! only £120 for a new fuse box, which is quite cheap to say that they can cost a lot more!

Can't see how a bad (corroded?) fuse box can cause this.

It's fixed now?

Awesome, glad it's not anything drastic and it's fixed ?

Not yet fixed, as the part cant come in until tuesday. They switched the relays which solved the problem apparently, but when they did that it caused the engine to cut out.

So it needs a new fusebox. Hopefully this will fix it and it will just be a loose connection...
