Hi all.

so the airbag warning light appeared on the dash out of the blue (just driving down the road) and wont go out.
I'm using MES with ELM v1.4 and have the red/green/yellow adapters for the various CAN modules on the car. The battery in the car was replaced about 3 months ago. Checked all connections under the seats.

The green adapter connects to all modules and when in the airbag module there are 3 faults stored but it wont allow me to clear the faults. They remain there.
The red cable adapter cannot connect to the Airbag module and keeps throwing out a "check cable connection error".

Of course, it reports that the faults remain and need to be fixed before clearing them. However the faults happened about 400km ago and the message in MES shows this. Surely if it was a repetitive/continuous error it would have updated the error with current mileage by now?
The CAN info tab shows the airbag system as recognized and active in MES.
The only other thing is I cannot deactivate the passenger bag. I was trying this to see if I could write something to the airbag module and then try clear the errors.Nothing,nada.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks.

I had a similar but not identical airbag issue with my 2009 Tjet.
The airbag, passenger airbag and seatbelt signs started to light up and give the "Airbag error - see handbook" message.
It could happen right after I started the car or after 5-10 min of driving.
The dealer couldn't get in touch with the airbag ecu, so they had to dig it out (took about 90 min.).
Turned out it was dead, so I had to buy a new airbag ecu.....which isn't cheap :-(

Well I dug down and found the Airbag node under the heater matrix.
I unplugged it and ran a proxi allignment with MES and the node is now offline and lights are not showing on dash. Only thing is the airbags are not active if I go driving.
Might leave it disconnected for a while and plug it back in later to see if it has reset. If that doesn't work I'll look around for a replacement.

I'm pretty sure its the node at fault and not sensors as the scanner is reporting. The odometer flashes when a misallignment occurs between the various nodes and seeing as the airbag one is throwing up errors I can only assume that is at fault.

Of course it couldn't be straight forward could it.
MES says its a siemens but this has a continental name and part number on it.
To make matters worse the Fiat number on the label corresponds to a siemens also.Maybe that is why MES cannot connect to this and reset the errors.

Does anyone know if its easy enough to flash these and where would I get a cable to do so?

Thank heavens I found a new replacement ECU for £100 on an Italian website.Fiat wanted some crazy money for the part alone. The original part number has been superseded about 3 times so there are a few that will work.

I took a chance with finding an ECU with the same 5WK43641 even though the Fiat part number was different. Once the connectors are the same I was in business.

If anyone is having trouble finding a replacement ECU send me a PM and I will send you the contact details for the lad who has a few new spares.
