Might worth a try checking for a head gasket failure. I had a previsous punto that had a hard time starting in the morning and I find out it was head gasket that let water get into a cilinder over night.
Does your get pressure in the water circuit tubes when it get the right temperature? if so....

My wife's T-Jet had exactly the same thing for the longest time in winter. Normally an ECU reset (done at the dealers) would offer temporary relief (which to me suggests that it's an ECU learning issue).
Not seen the issue in a while though (as in: not seen it for a few years), so I can sadly offer no real advice. I don't know what the workshop did to make it go away.

Mine is a 1.4 turbo Jet 120 HP Lancia butt engine is also available in Fiat.
I had the same problem it is bad starting at temp below 7* C. It wast the battery in my case. Simply bad fuel 95 RON.
My girl friend tends to fill it up at the cheapest fuel pump around
. As said no problems in summer, as from last week it is getting colder and yes the problem appears bad starting and stumbling/eratic engine, also smell of petrol. After a few seconds everything normal. The tank was 60 % full.
Went to another fuel station and fild it up with 95 Ron...............................This morning ........cold brr.............butt no problrm at all with the car
