Hi
I have been getting really bad MPG figures for the past 3 months, 24.7 MPG according to the computer, The car does do short journeys to uni and work but always warms up. I do let the car idle a lot and my journeys cosist of lots of hills (n) but this should still not produce poor mpg.

I have had a full service done including plugs, new tyres Dunlop blue response sport (B rated efficeny, A grip) with 35 PSI all round,

Is there anything else i can do to sort this problem, Diagnostic revealed no faults,

I do get a lot of white smoke from the back even after a 2 hour+ journey so it cant be condensation, sniffer test reveled nothing, Recently the car has been vibrating at idle which can be felt when sitting in the car, as soon as i give it gas the vibrations disappears, Possible mounts or timing? :bang:

There does seem to be the smell of petrol from cold starts even with the interior fan is of, this disappear after a while.

No power loss and runs on shell v power
Any ideas?
thanks

White smoke is not a good sign. Coolant level still the same?

I have the same car, its just **** for short journeys.

If i put £20 in ill probably get 50-70miles in short trips, if i put £20 in and do some motorway miles i get about 100-200 depending how i drive!

As for white smoke i get that on start up alot but once warmed up its gone

Check to see if your radiator is leaking? Or maybe be HG has failed.

Check all pipes to be sure if their is any leaks...

50 miles seems to be what i get from £20 also and around 120 miles on motorway.
thanks

Had a compression test done yesterday everything was fine no loss in pressure, Head gasket also fine as i had a sniff test done last week.

Could i be leaking fuel as i do get the smell of petrol from a cold start.
Does my car have a coil pack?

This is what i managed to get when driving to London from the Midlands and then driving to the O2 and home

Going down i was averaging 70-80MPH then on the North circular in london it was a mix of 30-60MPH and then on the way home i was going 85MPH with cruise control on. Boy its fun driving home at night!

But as soon as i got home and started doing short trips it soon went down :(

I averaged 35MPG on a recent trip from West Bromwich to Aldershot.

And I was giving it some most of the time. (80-90MPH shhh)

In fact the total journey was about 318 miles according to my mileage. And it cost me £47 to refill it to the brim which is where it was before I set out. This was with passenger and 4 alloys and tyres in the back for the journey back.

(I only use Morrison's fuel too as I like the Morrison miles)

MPG on these cars compared to real world german whip driving friends seems to be 8-10mpg worse in every given situation.

I echo the 37mpg ish on a run , which for a modern diesel is ****.

Currently i am sat at 27mpg , that is all town driving though without much time at full temp . Asda fuel here which always gives you less miles to a tank for some reason too.

I noticed my mpg drop around 4/5mpg first thing I did was add some redex injection cleaner then add some premium fuel also checked tyre pressure after that my mpg went back up to 42mpg

Seems to me my MPG figures are normal for town driving which is an absolute shock, just hit 1000 miles on the trip computer and averaged 27.8 mpg.

I agree, i had my dads 535D which i was using for 2 weeks, all short journeys and averaged in the region of 33mpg and it was still in it run in phase. (n)
