Hi all,

I'm gonna go ahead with a remap for my Bravo using http://black-code.co.uk/

There are 2 levels of remap I'm considering. Can be boosted to 185-190 BHP or up to 207 BHP.

I don't have the exact torque figures to hand but is it generally better practice not to rip the @rse out of it first time and go for the lower remap? I'm tempted to go for the 207 BHP remap but then this may cause more strain on the engine if I don't upgrade other stuff with it (clutch etc).

Any thoughts on why I shouldn't go for the 207 option? Sorry if the detail is a bit hazy I can get this if needed!

Cheers

Black code are just generic remaps same as 95% of other vendors .

They buy the license for the maps , then just upload check the afrs and off you go .

Tuning boxes you tend to install yourself but no one tends to check fuelling and AFRs after .

Best way is a custom remap , road tuned or on a dyno .
Ideally you want a combination of both as this will ensure the car is mapped to your driving style and your local roads and fuel .
All engine parameters will be checked and the map refined accordingly .

As for the clutch your talking <£250 plus fitting .Accept that your going to kill it and upgrade it when it does go .

I actually thought the website looked better than most...

Basically got to weigh up the costs and pros and cons of each.

I ultimately went the plug and play route as I wanted a system that was variable (by me) on the fly and could be turned completely off for insurance purposes. I did however get the car RR'd to check the power before / after and to set the box up.

Power wise, people say 200+ will stress the box and clutch - but it really depends how you drive. I can count on one hand the number of times I've really launched the car and tend to drive smoothly and progressively. I've so far had no issues having done 30k+ with this set up and the car itself has done 60k.

Oh, and remember to fit some decent brakes - if you haven't done so already!

Cheers guys.

Just an update on this. It all came about when I left my car in for a Terraclean (see http://www.terraclean.co.uk/). It was a local agent here in N.I.

They were doing a special offer of a Terraclean and a remap for £250 all in. I already had the terraclean done and they made me aware of this offer (remap would be £200+ by itself normally) which I found difficult to refuse.

The net result is an extra 40 BHP and 82 ft lb torque (total 190 BHP / 307 ft lb).

I drove off after the remap and could feel the extra power instantly. 1st-4th gear are all fine but if I floor it in 5th or 6th then the car starts to shudder (below 3k revs).

So is this remap simply too much for my car to handle? What exactly is causing the shudder? I'm guessing my torque curve is little bit scew whiff as a result of this remap.

It was better than I expected tbh but perhaps a bit too powerful. They can map it back down by about 10 BHP which might be the sensible thing to do (other than take the map off completely).

Thanks!
