So as some of you may know I got my Bravo in September last year with very low mileage.

About 3 weeks in after enjoying the car a lot I realised the clutch pedal would take awhile to return to it's original position. Couldn't take in in right away as I needed my car. Then the week before I planned on taking it in, it completely gave up. No pressure at all in the pedal and a puddle of brake fluid could be found under the car. So after some research it appeared to be just the slave cylinder that gave way. So I replaced the slave cylinder and clutch kit (feared the brake fluid got onto it) and a local workshop and everything was fine for about another 2 weeks.

Then it happened again, but slightly different. Now only super quick clutch releases (or pumping the clutch) would cause it to come up a 1cm, make juddering sound and slow down until it got all the way up. Tried to troubleshoot where the sound was coming from but pumping clutch, but that ended very badly. No pressure in the pedal again and a lovely brake fluid puddle under the car.

Took it into the workshop again and they said it seemed like the slave cylinder gave away even after it being just 1 month old. They got a new part (which took a good week and a half to wait for) and they replaced it for only the problem to not be fixed. They got someone to come from a nearby city to inspect the whole thing and it turns out that it's probable that Fiat originally gave me the incorrect pressure plate.

My questions are,
Is this possible?
Would it cause such a problem?
If not, what else could be causing this clutch nightmare.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm dying here after not being able to drive my Bravo for a month now :(

I understand what you are feeling.
When i replaced my Bravo's clutch, the new slave cylinder gave way to the pressure...
I had to redo the whole job.

If indeed the pressure plate is different from what should be there.... it can can cause this problem. It can overextend the slave cylinder until it eventually pops the sealing gasket.

In my opinion It's still the fault of the fitter. They should have compared the part numbers, and the parts.

Oh okay thanks. Unfortunately Fiat is not a common car in my country and the Bravo even less common, so the fitting company probably didn't know any better. I got the parts myself and got them to replace it, so they just did what I asked them to, and unfortunately I'm assuming when they replaced the pressure plate they didn't bother to check because they probably looked identical and they assumed I had got the correct parts
