Hi all,
I have a 58 Fiat Bravo, 1.9 120hp Multijet diesel. I love 'er (although secretly covet my husband's 09 2.0 165bhp Multijet, even with the DPF).

Anyway.

After witnessing an accident a few weeks back, and seeing some recent idiotic driving where I had to take evasive action, I'm thinking about getting a dash cam.

Just wondering if anyone else has installed one in a Bravo, can recommend a particular one, AND has any guides or tips for installing one? I've never done one before and am a bit worried about how to run the cable round trims etc, and how to wire it in to the fuse box if possible (rather than cig lighter).

Thanks for any help/advice (y)

I have a double cam as well but I found it easier to route the cable for the rear camera through the edge of the headliner.

The front camera's power cable goes through A pillar, under the passenger footwell carpet and into the cig lighter plug.

The installation is really easy. you only need a screw driver to remove a screw in the A pillar cover and another one in a the corner plastic cover in the footwell.

All good if you haven't curtain airbags, but all UK Bravo models do (as do most new cars these days) and if that's the case then wiring shouldn't be run around the headlining as it can potentially dangerously impede airbag deployment.

Looks pretty good atleast for the money. but can you read number plates?..i'm thinking the YouTube video isn't the best quality.

Depends upon the circumstance, but very rarely need from experience, and you can always shout the number plate out of an offending car if in doubt.

My cams are of average quality and I still can read the plates on cars that are near by. Should be enough in case of accident. the car that's right in front of me is very readable and can even see what the passengers are doing.

With better quality models it should be even better.

check this website, it reviews all the affordable dashcams and has a lot of great info: https://dashcamtalk.com/

I had one in my Bravo, should be some pics on here in the LL section from a year or two back.

I fitted a twin camera system, ran the wiring down the A pillar to a control unit I had installed under the glove box. Wiring for rear camera went down the A pillar, along the sill and up the rear C pillar.

Got this on camera from it

EDIT: This is the camera unit I use http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121093876067?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT (y)

I also have that camera (same seller too)...very good bit of kit for the price.

Piggyback fuse adapter & power supply came to about a fiver.

I ran my cable along the headlining, but the Focus airbags are located at the top of the B pillar. However, the wire should be plenty long enough to to be routed along the deck instead.
