Hi guys!

I've been reading posts on here for the past several months and I could do with a helping hand please.

I had a bravo dualogic 1.6 diesel until the dualogic packed up. Was quoted £2500 to have it replaced. Discovering how temperamental these units are I decided to covert to a manual.

So purchased a cat c bravo 1.6 diesel 105 bhp manual. Swapped the complete engine and gearbox over to mine, along with the donor car's ecu, fuse box and transponder unit located behind the glove compartment.

The padlock light along with abs are lite on the dashboard so I also took the ignition barrel from the donor car, no change I cannot start the car.

I'm guessing the immobiliser is kicking in. I can't figure out what to do.

Any ideas as to what I've missed?
Thanks!

I know as I really enjoyed the dualogic.

Yes I also took the complete ignition barrel from the donor car, lucky enough it came with the master key.

one thing that might help or not: i once removed the steering wheel column, after i plugged it back i got the padlock on the dash. I then unplugged everything, plugged them back in and then it worked.

Are you 100% sure that the key and ignition barrel came of the same car as the body computer and ECU?
Why did you replace the engine as well as the gearbox?
couldn't you have just replaced the gearbox, them make a proxy alignment... and that would be that???

I'll try unplugging what I can see around the steering wheel column as I have tried that.

I'm pretty sure the key etc from the donor car are the originals.

Opted for a complete swap as the engine had only done 27k miles, nothing! Inside is immaculate so I was confident the engine had been treated well too.

Am I safe to disconnect the ABS from beneath the steering with the battery connected?

Shouldn't be a problem.. but don't do it anyway! ( if simply unplugging the airbag would cause it to go boom , then a lot of the Stilo seat airbags would have already done that.)
You might get an error that you would need to clear with MES.
Just remove the battery ground let it sit for 5 minutes and go ahead.

Also make sure all the other connections are in order.
Do you have MES/FES?
I might be wrong, but you might need the engine bay fuse box also, the one from the donor car. ( might not be needed as it's the same engine and the options on the car have not changed... )

Disconnect ground from battery, waited about 10 mins and then unplugged what I could find under the steering wheel. Plugged all back in and connect the battery and no change.

I do have MES and just did a scan, here are the results

Engine
Bosch EDC16C39 CF5/EOBD Diesel Injection (1.6, 1.9, 2.0)
ISO Code: FD 86 DF 07 3E
Errors found:
U1706 - CAN network (NCM - NFR)
U1700 - CAN network (NCM - NBC)
U0426 - Electronic key
P0504 - Brake pedal switch

Body
Body Computer Marelli
ISO Code: 40 83 D9 89 7A
Errors found:
U1600 - Minicrypt
B1003 - Key transponder

:bang:

AFAIK the U1706 and u1700 are related to immobilizer errors.
You should to do a Proxy alignment so the different computers can know how to talk to each other . As all the communication is done on the CAN network.
Also check that the antenna around the ignition barrel is plugged in, both at the barrel and at the other end ( not sure where that is).
Clear the errors in the ecu and the body computer.

Did your original engine have the same hp?.. any differences between engines?( except better condition, miles etc)
If it still won't work i would try to use your original ecu, body computer , ignition barrel and key, do a Proxy alignment and then try again.

Tried what you mentioned with every from the donor car no luck. Swap to everything from the original car no luck either.

The only difference I'm aware of between the two engines is the bhp and the turbo is different.

Guess I'm stuck with no idea of how to resolve the issue.

well.. if it is still throwing the same errors (immobilizer errors) even with the original ecu, body computer, ignition barrel, immobilizer antenna and key then i've got no other idea except whiring.. check that make sure you didn't leave any connector unpugged or ripped any wires.

Yes I checked that everything is plugged in with no damage to wires or connections.

I also charged the battery to full charge. Could a fading be the cause?

The only other thing I can think of is that the wiring loom is different seeing that mine was a dualogic and the donor car a manual.
