Hi

So Im looking to upgrade my Fiat Bravo Head Unit Player, But I havent really found much decent looking makes or models on the internet.

So far im in two minds if I should purchase :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUTORADIO...6?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3ce255253a

But with the weak Operating system, Im unsure if this will be really worth the £250.

So I did abit more browsing and was wondering if there is anyway installing a Nexus 7 into a Fiat Bravo Double Din Ex-closer, and the Answer is YES there is a way.

I came across this diagram where someone has installed a Nexus 7 into their BMW, It doesn't seem like a hard job from the diagram it seemed pretty straight forward, if anyone can find any faults in the Diagram why it could not work in a Fiat Bravo would love to hear them.

I don't see a amp in that setup.
Surely you would need to run at least a 4 channel amp for the 4 speakers in the doors (and the 2 tweeters). The guy on the original forum used the stock amp that came installed in his car.
Might be ok if you already have the standard factory amp.
The EQ isn't strictly required.. but might improve sound quality.

And his tabled got a custom ROM to be able to send sound through the microusb AND use external usb devices like the USB mic, usb stick..etc

Still, this is damn interesting!

An iPad connected using its lightning connector will send all audio through the the cable.

I think from the Guide its pretty straight forward, With the Cost of everything It roughly cost you around £150 to install and have it full working. This includes the Nexus 7, for £80 Second Hand.

But if you want the aftermarket head units will cost £250 easily.

Overall the only issue I can think off is would the steering wheel controls work? Since using the nexus 7 to change the sound will get annoying after awhile?

This is rather interesting thing. I rather think it would be better to just a buy a Pioneer Double Din system that supports steering wheel and also come with USB in, Aux in and Bluetooth and the obvious 7 inch touch screen. Yes I just admit running android has an interface is way nicer and you can use Torque to bring up all the engine stats etc. But there's actually a way to mirror your screen to the pioneer HU and it's the best of both worlds....

I like your enthusiasm as I also had the same idea however after my friend put a 7" tab into his dash as well and I realised what big job it can actually be to make it work properly.

You could run Aux Out of tablet into RCA cables into the Amp and then from the Amp then to the speakers or just get a Bluetooth to Aux adapter and connect tab via Bluetooth. However the tab will always stay on and there won't be anyway to switch off your tablet and changing volume will be difficult.

My friend overcame this problem by taking the tab apart and soldering wires to the circuit board running to buttons he put on his dash for the various tabs. He also wired to the micro-USB to the ignition so whenever the car is on it charges the tablet. Also he wired up a Bluetooth module for his phone and tablet and an aux cable all running to his amp. It's a lot of messy work and you can mess up your dash if you make a mistake.

Considering all the work you have to do to get it working properly (considering also adding steering. controls can be difficult)

That's why I decided going for a Pioneer Double DIN would work out maybe cheaper and much easier job.

I think Ill pass doing this Project since I dont have the time, However I purchased the:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUTORADIO...6?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3ce255253a

Im aware that its currently running windows CE 6.0 might be able to install android on it, using a duel boot up. But unsure if the headunit is not powerful enough to run Android maybe 2.4 might work.

Also found that I can install iGo-Primo which seems pretty good Satnav Software, which works with Windows CE.

So will update you about the headunit soon.

I think the UI looks nice, which is usually the worst part about aftermarket stereos.

I'm not an expert but wasn't android 4.4 supposed to be the lightest?

Hahahaha no dude. 2.3 (Gingerbread) is the lightest in terms it used the least amount of RAM. From 4.0.0 onwards it's been heavy on RAM and my old Android that had 512mb couldn't run anything past 4.1. But however 4.4 has less RAM usage than 4.1-4.3, it's still a lot. 4.4 is more efficient, but most definitely not lighter

Types of Android Versions:

  • Alpha (1.0)
  • Beta (1.1)
  • Cupcake (1.5)
  • Donut (1.6)
  • Eclair (2.0–2.1)
  • Froyo (2.2–2.2.3)
  • Gingerbread (2.3–2.3.7)
Onwards version will require more RAM

Question?

Im aware that the headunit has currently Windows CE 6.0 is that the same as HTC HD2 which runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional ? If so I think it may be possible to Install Android 2.2.1

Android 2.2.1 on the headunit would be awesome I think!
