Hi there. Just a quick query really for anyone who might be more knowledgeable about engine components than me.

I have noticed a frayed pipe on my 2.0 Multijet but can't get a close enough look at it to tell if it's potential trouble or not. Hopefully it can be seen on the attached photo which isn't orientated correctly but it's basically on the left hand side of the engine bay (as you look at it from the front) and runs over the wheel arch.

Any help would be appreciated as it's buried too far down for me to make anything of it with the cursory glance I've had time to make so far.

It's an air intake pipe that draws air from the top of the o/s/f wheel arch and takes it down into the air filter box. Had exactly the same on my M-jet 165. Can't see any reason why it should deteriorate, as it's behind the wheel arch liner and out of the way of any road dirt etc. Maybe it's caused by heat from the engine bay?

Just replaced mine (FIAT Part No 51964305). Cost £34.94 including VAT and looks as though it may now be made of a slightly different material. You'll need to remove the roadwheel and wheelarch liner for access to fit it.

Many thanks for that. I thought it looked to be in a strange place for wear to occur.

Did you notice any performance issues before you replaced your pipe?

No problem thanks. I'm having issues similar to some earlier ones that were solved by the replacement of the MAF sensor is all. I'm in a new job that involves a lot less mileage than my old one and was hoping that this might be a "lucky find" rather than the dreaded EGR valve again.
