Tuning Mapping

Tuning Mapping

Got mine done, they said 30bhp +60nm of torque, but unless there are some seriously weak Honda Civic Type R's out there it's more than that, need to get it on a dyno.
It cost £400 with EGR delete,
Takes a little bit longer to warm up but least it's not breathing in its own farts.
It was a totally different car on return home, traction control light comes on in 1st,2nd and 3rd.
I reset my MPG on the way down and got 45.5mpg, coming back got 57.5mpg.
Second car I have got done now.
Makes me want to buy another diesel just to get the grin factor,of getting it done, worth every penny . . .
Best way I can describe it is I now get 100more miles from a full tank and a faster car,

Okay thanks for all who responded,I had a quote and also a different option from the guy who fits these,he said as my car is only a year old the mapping "could" be erased by Fiat not only that VOID my 2 year Warrenty with them so I rang Fiat as Nissan do mapping anyhow Fiat said they won't on a new car as it would indeed VOID the Warrenty,

More to the point the guy said I could have a tuning box he said this is a popular option as people can remove this when they need to ie Warrenty services etc,he said if I got the same car again can take it off and put it on the new car it's a bit more pricey but to me seems the sensible option

Your thought experiences with tuning boxes? Are they any good otherwise it's a 2 year wait for mapping :(

My only advise would be to avoid at all costs cheap nasty plug in eBay jobbies.. £80 boxes be aware! There are loads of cheap boxes doing damage to engines out there.

I would pay more, and get a better quality plug in box.

DTUK are a good brand

TMC autosport are also a good brand and I've heard good things from their boxes;

Be prepared to spend £££ for a better quality unit :)

Won't be as good as a quality remap though.

A Tuning Box also takes a map. It just piggybacks the ECU, and instead of remapping the ECU it leaves that as standard, but reads the map off the tuning box. So Fiat will never know that your Bravo was kicking out a few more bhp (y)

That's exactly what the guy said on the phone. What to do.
Do map is £170 including vat.but with the certain chance loosing my Warrenty and if I did go with it and Fiat reset it the dude said they redo it for £100 so that's £270

Or

i fancy gettin mine remapped also coz i always race this wee fiesta st that runs about my way and a cant catch him lol apart from when it comes to the bends lol

Considering it's only £20 extra with the tuning box I'd go for it. Cause you can always remove it when needed, and you can just change between cars, obviously having to get a new remap for each, but these should be cheaper to remap (in my opinion I think it will be cheaper cause it's easier to do usually). So if you ever totalled your Bravo and got another one you could just put the box in that and get (hopefully) a cheaper remap.

I would do some heavy internet research into remaps vs boxes before making any decision.

We used to run boxes, but now both my brothers van and Dad's car are running remaps - vast improvements in overall drivability over boxes.

I'm not saying boxes are sh*t, they do have a place in this world. But a remap is better in my opinion.

I agree, tuning boxes are for more convenience, a proper remap is usually better as less stuff can go wrong (y)

Swift do as he said, Internet research it. You'll all the full detail on which would be most appropriate.

Orrrrrr get a tuning box now, wait 2 years until the warranty is over, then sell it online and get proper remap :D (y) cause in the end you'll get most of your money back for the tuning box which will pay for the remap and let you have some extra cash in your pocket

Exactly what I was thinking but I wanted to ask as I wanted to know peoples opinions and for me not having a map wouldn't know the difference anyhow to be honest I can't get a map done not worth my Warrenty is it,so may well just take a punt with the tuning box

Well in my opinion, go for the tuning box. It will be better than stock. My friend has a Unichip (a South African brand that's also sold worldwide, but not in UK as it seems) and he got significant power gains and improved fuel economy and he's got a Fiesta 1.4. Like said in another post, turbo cars can gain more. So if you're looking for that power now, go with the tuning box.
