Off Topic How fast can your Bravo go on a quiet road

There's a difference between driving fast and driving irresponsibly. Yes speed does kill, but so do guns. It depends on the person who is in control. You can drive fast and do it safely.

That's a now completely discredited viewpoint.

You cannot drive fast and safely when you have no control over what happens with your car at speed.

NEWSFLASH: you can die in your car without even moving. all it takes is a lory with dead brakes or a sleepy underpaid polish driver coming into an intersection or red light.

Speed doesn't kill, laws of physics do.

This is a false statement

It should be:

You cannot drive safely at any speed as you have no control over what happens to your car due to external influences.

You can mitigate this somewhat by good awareness and car control but you cannot eliminate it. Driving slower only increases your (and others) chances of survival in some situations it does not eliminate the risk altogether

Variance in speed and Road Surface quality play a big piece of the puzzle. Look at the German Autobahn's. I cannot be arsed looking for stats but I've heard time and time again they're probably the safest highways in europe a lot of which are unrestricted speeds
More and more of the Autobahn is getting restrictions now though. Shame really. I'd love to enjoy a journey on there with something really powerful. Not a Bravo for sure. As much as I love them.

Should try a chipped 150 Sport Bravo. Mine with 185BHP is nothing to be ashamed of. Between 80 and 180 km/ph did win against an brand new S350 CDI (newest version).

You should see his face.... :D

Only 180km/h??

I do 230 easily with mine and I never dared to see how further it can go.

235 is my top. The needle is somewhere in the red and the power is then gone... Only downhill could go faster. With a 7th gear there would be more possible. But I like the acceleration more than topspeed. Untill 210km/ph is goes like stink!

Oh don't worry I am not ashamed of a bravo and understand they are quick especially the 150 and 165 but if I'm going on the autobahn I'd want something dramatic, a Ferrari or Aston for example. Something in your face you know what I mean.

on a straight line? it makes absolutely no difference what car you're in as long as you're not trying to do 350Km/h and then die.

Speed doesn't kill, laws of physics do.[/IMG]

Forces/ momentum increase as speed increases.

Crash your car at 30 mph into a concrete wall... then hit it at 80 mph.

1.3 tonne going at 80 has a lot more force/ momentum behind it compared with 30. Hence the reasons for braking harder or for a longer period of time in order to get back to 0....

I just think it's not right to say "speed doesn't kill"

Most modern cars are capable of handling sub 40 MPH crashes with all occupants unharmed.

However, if your hitting 120 mph and you roll it, I'm not certain you wouldn't come out looking too healthy :p

By no means am I saying "go fast and you will die" just stating my opinion that the faster you go, when you do get it wrong, it is a lot harder to handle and could end up a lot worse.

Even worse when you think that if you hit an oncoming car you have to add their speed into the equation, for arguments sake you're on a national speed limit country lane doing the speed limit (60) imagine hitting a car also sticking to the speed limit head on, coming the other way. You hit that person head on at 120MPH. Watch this ford focus hit a wall at 120MPH and I guarantee your jaw will drop as mine did.

What you need to think about is theoretically the above situation would be completely within the laws of the uk roads.

Point I'm making? The fall doesn't kill you, it's the sudden stop at the end. We have all seen speed warning infomercials on the telly. There is no need for this thread. I think majority of Bravo owners are mature family men/women.
