I don't believe so. The pedal is electric. It uses a special switch that registers a certain electrical current depending on it's place. The cars ECU knows the highest point (idle) and lowest point (full throttle). That wedge behind the pedal is only there to stop how much movement is needed to register these limits. I believe it's to do with driving comfort, if you had to push the pedal to the floor for full throttle (acceleration), it would be uncomfortable on your legs, ankle and feet. If you want to make sure you're getting the most out of the throttle. Stick the car in neutral and put the pedal all the way down, if you hit the ref limiter (basically red lining the car) then it is fine.
