Hi All,

I need to get new brake discs in the front and pads in both front and rear.
The cost in Fiat garage in Ireland is €450 which is for genuine parts and also the brake fluid renewal.
I was looking at a online motor factors in Ireland and Mintex seem to be the preferred option with them.
Are mintex( Front Discs and all pads = €137.06 + Fitting) any good or what would you recommend?
Do shop4parts and the other forum shops doing genuine parts or are they other makes?
Car has 45,000 km up and these are the first brake pads changes.
Is there a special wind back tool needed for the pads?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Kieran

You might look in the Stilo section for a recent thread on brakes . Might help you decide on your choice !
I got new discs from buypartsby but the carriage could be expensive to ROI.

There is an old thread in Bravo section re winding back the rear calipers to fit pads. Worth a good read.

Yes, you do need a wind-back tool for winding back the rear calipers. They wind back clockwise on the right-hand side, and anti-clockwise on the left. The fronts don't need any special tools from what I can tell, but you will need to deal with brake pad wear sensors (on the left-hand front according to my workshop manual.). I haven't actually worked on my front brakes, so I have no personal experience.

Mintex are good brakes. I had previously had EBC discs and pads on my last car and when they needed replaced (disc corrosion due to lack of use of the car), I fitted mintex items and I was impressed. They were good brakes, and I never heard them squeaking, and they didn't produce copious amounts of dust, so I definitely recommend them.

Thanks for your input.
I still haven't decided which way to go but will need to look @ maybe brembo and ebc as mentioned elsewhere here.
Brakes are on 70% the garage has advised me.
