Hi guys.

I am looking to fit DRLs to my Bravo, and ideally I want them to dim with the indicator, as well as dimming with the sidelights.

What I don't want is the DRL to flash with the indicator bulb (e.g. bright with the indicator off, dim with the bulb on, bright, dim, bright, dim etc). So, my thought there is to tap into the wiring at the switch.

The question is, though, is that running a 12v signal feed, or being CANBUS does it use a smaller voltage? (I work on buses, many of the CANBUS systems there use a lot of 5V signal systems)

Where are you planning on placing your DRLs? If not within the headlight unit then what you plan to do would be pointless and look stupid tbh.

Not yet decided on a location. I can't decide which DRLs I want,

I am looking either at a pack of 10 individual round LEDs which I would place possibly in the bumper just below the headlight (they are similar size to a parking sensor, and would therefore need the bumper drilled). Plan B is a pair of small rectangular units which would fit into one of the slots of the radiator grille - that would mean I don't need to drill holes anywhere.

Personally, I think the dim on indicator would look quite good. I know it's not a legal requirement unless the DRLs are within a certain distance of the indicators, so it would depend on my choice of mounting location - for example, directly below the headlight and I might need to do it by law

And when the time comes, I would do checking with a multimeter. Just thought I would ask here first in case anyone knew ;)

When raking the house recently, I found a pair of Ring "Ursa" DRLs that I bought for my old car and never fitted. Having looked at the Bravo, there are two possibilities where I could fit them.

Easiest option is to mount them to the bumper in front of the lower grille, at the top edge of the aperture, so they would be just below the numberplate. This option isn't ideal as I am worried it will look a little cheap. What do you guys think?

Plan B would require a little more work, but I could mount them behind the upper radiator grille.

I also have a GenLabs DRLR2 relay (on with ignition, dimmed with sidelights) which I used on my old car as well. This won't give me the dim on indicator function, but having given it more thought I have gone off that idea as it will be a little more involved than I first anticipated. No-one seems to sell a single relay that will do the whole job for me, the way I want it to work. So it would mean making something up myself.

MEP, you have DRLs on your Bravo. Where did you take the ignition feed for them? I know that if all else fails, I can take mine from the cigarette lighter, but if I can find an ignition feed in the engine bay then that would be a lot easier...
 
Not cheap looking really, better than behind the grille which will be obscuring them and defeating the object, but copying ;) :p

Ah I never realised that's where you had yours mounted!

How are yours wired up?

They've an auto switching unit built in as they're part of the Ring DRL range, so 3 wires, a +ve, -ve and signal feed from the headlights to dim them when the lights are on (although I'd prefer if they went off completely light the BRL0397's I had fitted to the Stilo but these ones don't :()
