Hi Guys.

I realise there have been questions about this type of thing before, but I felt I would start a new thread since my query is also about the money involved.

My climate control has started playing up on my Bravo (2008 1.4 T-Jet Dynamic). The direction control motor appears to have failed. Most of the time, I drive my car with the climate control on Full Auto, and that mostly means it's usually set to my feet. Now, though, the direction selection is stuck on windscreen.

I have had my dash apart today, and managed to get my hand in to work the flaps manually, and the direction flap is working freely. I therefore presume my motor has failed?

I have to admit that since I bought the car, there's been a constant buzzing from that kind of area, a kind of buzz-off-buzz-off sound with about a second in time for each buzz.

That being the case, what sort of money is it going to cost me to buy a new motor? I am a mechanic to trade, and gifted with rather small hands, so I am going to be able to replace the motor myself.

I noticed in other threads that typically there's more than one motor failed at a time - I only really managed to assess three (temperature control, recirculation control and the direction control). I gather there are five in total - where are the other two, and what are they for?

Many thanks

Recirculation, driver temperature, driver direction, passenger temperature, passenger direction? Just guessing, but if climate control gives separate zones, thats what it would have to be.

Sometimes motors are OK, but the plastic is broken.

I had to replace 3 motors+all plastics at fiat service for 340€. In Slovenia.
If I would change 5 motors + plastics, it would cost approximatelly 480€.

200€ is only labour, becase they had to put all dashboard out of the car.

Common Fiat Bravo mistake.

Well yes it is dual zone climate but there's only one set of direction controls, and two temperature controls, on the main control panel for the climate control.

Sounds like I will have to get the motor actually out of the dash to see what's wrong with it, in case it might just be the plastic bits that are broken?

Had loud clicking from vent to feet on mine, was told motor is going past end of flap travel. Could see with torch from passenger footwell.

New heater box required (individual parts not available) including dash out so lots of labour. 2-3 days and £1200.

Done under 5 year warranty.

Hmmm

Fortunately mine is under a warranty too, I got a 12 month Nissan Cared4 warranty from the Nissan garage I bought my car from. And it just so happens that the nissan dealer nearest to me are also Fiat dealers :)

It's going in next Thursday for them to assess it, hopefully the warranty will approve the work.

IIRC 6 hours labour, they wanted it longer guess because they didn't want someone tied up on it all day with other cars to do.

Mine just made the noise on startup and every ~10mins when computer tried to adjust flap.

I find this hard to believe. Last time I looked all the motors are available. If they don't know who to correctly driver the ePER parts program then all they will find is the whole unit.

It is also my understanding that all but one of the motors can be replace with having to remove the whole dash.

I think ????? the one that can't be replaced without removing the dash is the recirculate flap motor. Don't quote me on this. I also seem to recall reading somewhere that failiure of this motor/flap results in the screen misting up and a solution one punter took to the problem was to manually open the flap and jam it in the open position.

Whether they were right to change heater box I don't know but it's what happened. Had to have warranty company to visit the dealer who signed it off as well.

This unit is from the stilo, just in the stilo it is possible to replace the motors without dashboard removal.
I'm not sure that it is not possible to do in bravo also, maybe just a question of the handskill.

Well, personally speaking, having looked under the dash myself, I think it would be possible for me to do it without removing the whole dash. I would need to remove a section of the centre console, but I don't think I would need to remove the entire dash.

If the warranty company won't approve the work, then I will have to tackle it myself!
