I'm on my second Bravo..moved from a t-jet 150 sport to a multijet dynamic 165. I've been mostly sorting out what seems to me mileage related issue's. The t-jet had 25k on the clock the multijet has 69k.
Anyways I've had the creaky steering issue when turning left at slow speeds. Most posts I've seen suggest it is the top mount. Whilst it does appear that the creak comes from the mount I can confirm that after fitting a new one that this is not the case.
It turns out that it is either the steering rack or steering box at fault.
Not many people know this but the rack is serviceable in that the pre-load can be adjusted by a nut on the rack. By adjusting this nut you can eliminate excessive play in the rack. Some instructions for doing so can be found here valvoline.com/car-care/automotive-system/steering/ccr20060701sr
Hence I tightened said nut and the creaking went away.
If I am reading this issue correctly, the electric steering box is putting too much pressure on a "worn rack".
So my question is do I replace the rack or should I just wait and see if the creak returns?
