Hi all!
I have been lurking around this site for a while - I have a 2007 1.4 Tjet Sport, which has now done 80.000 kilometers.
I would like to show you guys my new double din system. At home I am using an alternative to Spotify, and would like to bring that with me in the car. I have been thinking about doing some tablet install, but i don't think it can be done elegantly.
Then I stumbled upon the Pioneer Appradio 2. It is supposed to be working with some standard apps - and not the music streaming service I am using. Fortunately some guy made an app called ARLiberator (35$), which brings your whole Android screen to the Appradio's 7 inch touch screen That means Spotify (alternative), Google Navigation, Torque for OBD readouts and whatever Android app you want to be running. The touch screen interface introduces a hardly noticably lag.
It only works with rooted Android devices which are able to output directly to HDMI or via an MHL adaptor. I bought a second hand Samsung Galaxy S2 with a broken screen cheaply - this phone can just stay in the glove compartment. Alternatively Apple devices can be used, but I have no experience with those.
The steering wheel controls actually work with the music player on the phone. Only problem I have, is that sometimes the screen flickers. This might be due to the fact, that I am using a non-Samsung MHL adaptor. I have read that the adaptor can cause some touble - e.g. the Samsung Galaxy S3 is using an 11-pin connector - I advise you to Google this issue.
Appradio showing off Angry Birds
Stuff I used:
Pioneer Appradio 2 SPH-DA100
HDMI cable
MHL adaptor with USB cable for charging
Samsung Galaxy S 2
Fiat Bravo interface cable (Connects 2: Vehicle Interface - Fiat Bravo 2007> CTSFA005)
Pioneer Radio steering controls interface (Connects 2: Connects2 Pioneer Patch Lead - CTPIONEERLEAD)
Some kind of double DIN fascia - havent got the exact link
As this is my first post, I can't post url's yet - I will do follow up, when possible
