Technical Who uses this oil

Good old halfords, i type in my reg number and thats the oil it comes up with.

So which oils do people use (halfords ones) im going there over the weekend to get some.

And does it make a difference to the performance of the car.

with oil that don't have ACEA C3 (for petrol and C2 for diesels with PDF) spec, it's possible to have problems with catalytic converter (PDF in diesels)

i dont buy oil from Halfords, i buy "Selenia" from the Fiat parts suppliers or the Fiat dealer

spec and grade is in your manual and on a sticker under the bonnett

Right then heres one for you

After going onto the castrol website they have said to use Edge 5w/40, the only one halfords have is a Edge 5/40 Turbo Diesel. Based on the following link the turbo diesel one will be fine in a petrol
http://www.civinfo.com/forum/engines-transmission/14691-using-turbo-diesel-oil-petrol-engine.html as it covers the ACEA C3 Spec

The mobil website tells me to use Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 but popped on halfords website and the only one they have is Mobil ESP 5/30 which is also within spec.

Each car parts place i am ringing are saying that its coming up with a 5/40 diesel but mine is a petrol.

So im guessing it doesnt really matter wether it is diesel or petrol aslong as the spec is correct and it covers ACEA C3

thats why i am unsure. I have spoken to 2 car parts places today and on there system it says to use a 5w/40 diesel oil.

the bloke at opie oils says it is fine, and there is no difference between diesel and petrol oils.

If it says to use ACEAC3 or fiat 9.55535-s2spec oil then surely it doesnt matter what it is aslong as it covers it

Just to give everyone the latest update. I have just got off the phone with a castrol technician and the turbo diesel oil is perfectly safe to use in a petrol car. The oil itself is slightly different as it covers a ford specification aswel but meets all the fiat critera aswel and will not cause any damage to the engine. It even says on there system that can be used in both diesels and petrols.

Just thought i would let you lot know incase you see it on offer at all and need some all.

but why trust their recommendation over the manufacturers spec

Compare & contrast what is listed in your OH with later issues & other models with your engine.
2007 is some snows back - & oil specs will have moved-on.
For example - what oil is recommended for the 1.4 MiTo or 1.4 Giulietta?

And I wouldn’t fuss about getting Selenia.
Does a Vectra-C or Saab 9-3 guy with a 1.9 FIAT engine insist he gets Selenia?

Oil for the Mito 1.4 in T-jet & Multi-air form is the same as the Fiat. Its 5w40 ACEA C3. Selenia now have a special can with the word Multi-air on it - still the same stuff.:)
That Castrol oil with the Turbo diesel name on it is the exact same oil as the Castrol Edge oil but it's cheaper.

Thanks for the replys. Yeah i got told the oil is the same so thats why i have gone for it :).

And i got it even cheaper as i got it for £25 which is also cheaper than the fiat stuff aswel.

Cheers
