What's the best i can get from this engine?

I was thinking of a K & N Induction kit and stainless exhaust to start with.
Talking about the exhaust i can only find a shop in Portsmouth for the exhaust and the price is £192 for the backbox put could do with the centre pipe as well for a cat back conversion.

Any suggestions would be a great help.

Cheers Darren

im interested in this thread, i have the same car, the engine is underpowered ever so slightly,

i would avoid a k&n, from experience, on a small engine its just noise, and made my mg zr 1.4 lose power. get a nice cotton panel filter, maybe bmc. maybe a remap, but you wont see much from the small engine, 10hp at most, even though a company called quantum remaps say they can get 15hp, i highly doubt that, but could be wrong. exhaust im unsure of, dont do that kind of thing.
apart from that, i would hope some people will post and help out. i would like a little more power also.

take the back seats out and stick some go faster stripes on it :D

I have the same car in a dynamic so I know how slow it can be at times, best bet is to save your pennies and trade it in for a Tjet/Mjet

unfortunately guys the only way to get N/A engines any quicker is big money. Full stainless exhausts including the manifold.

re-run the cold air feed to the front grill, i put mine in place of the fog light on my 2.5lt MG ZT and the results were fantastic. remember the closer to the road the cooler the air. also you want to make sure the C.A.F is as short as possible.

remove the standard air box as there normally grooved or designed in such a way it makes the air turbulent, some cars even have a restrictor in there. and fit a proper induction kit to your new air feed not a crap k&n. you get what you pay for.

irridium plugs, and better HT leads. really minimal gains here but every little helps.

and use higher octane fuel if your car will burn it. again minimal gains here.

some people will fit different cams, but im not sure this is an option on your engine as it was on all older cars.

then remove weight, spare wheel out. if you have a 3 door and don't like passengers why not take out the rear seats lol

if there is a company out there that can get some extra pony's with a remap make sure you do all of the above first then have your engine mapped to run with all the mods. never re-map then go changing air feeds or exhausts. always re-map last.

or as above save up for the TJET or MJET.

Not interested in a T-Jet/M-Jet has i only used the car local and just looking for a bit more power and decent sound. As for power i am looking at buying a Fiat Coupe 2lt Turbo or Alfa GTV 3.2 V6 more likely going to be the Alfa because of the sound.

What induction kit would you recommend if not K&N ?

You want any enclosed induction kit, not an.open cone because they just suck up engine bay heat, then just run your own cold air feed to it from th
e best place possible. Something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RAMAIR-UN...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5ae5f00287

That's an enclosed one, you just have to buy the cold air feed pipe and make it up yourself, its what I've always done. Obviously you need to check what sizes you need etc

none, save your money and spend it on the coupe or GTA :)

these guys claim to be able to get 16hp,
http://www.quantumremap.co.uk/
go through the options at the side of the website.
i think 16hp is a bit adverturous, as most companys claim to be able to get no more than 10hp. im on the fence with this company, until someone comes fotrward and proves their claims.

. remember the closer to the road the cooler the air. .

Comical nonsense, in summer when the road temp is far above ambient!! No don't put any air inlet close to the road, it's more likely to suck up water and that will be the end of that engine.

Save for a better car, keep you license clean and save on insurance as well.

Yeah not sure why I put that lol must of had a moment, I even mounted a caf on an old car behind the badged grill to keep it away from warm air and crap getting in it.

Power of our engine makes about 100 hp in runoff. +16 hp from chiptune only - it's a lie. Such a result is possible for complex actions: setting the proper inlet / outlet, together with the removal of the catalyst and flashing the ECU. If you do it right - it is VERY expensive ... It is easier to sell this car and buy Alfa Romeo =)
My results on the screen of my engine on the stand VTECH:

Sorry, my english is not good! =)

Tried to make some sense of that last post and I cant apart from you need a lot of money to make brum brum go fast :p

Best bet is to avoid just getting a back box fitted, usually restricting and they sound naff! Think Supersprint do a straight through and 4-2-1 manifold for the 1.4 90hp.
You could always go down the road of:
- Fast road cams
- Custom intake (induction kit)
- 4-2-1 manifold and Straightthrough/decat
- Port and polished head
- Remove rear bench and spare wheel
- uprated suspension (for faster cornering/better handling)
- wider wheels

But... would be cheaper to trade in for an M-jet/T-Jet

N/A is meant for efficiency and simplicity.

You can retrofit a cylynderhead from a tjet add the turbo and play with megasquirt. The cheapest of all and the most risky. But if you know some about an enjine it can be very very fast..
