Hey guys, ok so I just had my car serviced... the major cambelt service.

Now before it was serviced it started doing something odd which was revving really quickly but the car wasn't actually pulling, it would go straight to 5000rpm and then the car would pull to say 5000 and then climb 5100,5200 etc... Anyone had this problem before just wondering because I'm going to take it in and thought maybe some insight would help, well I would be interested to know?

Next thing is, I have a rattling sound when I go over 2000rpm on the right side of my engine, seems just under the cover (and no its not something loose) A guy just did my sound and he thought it may be a valve problem, it does sound kinda metalic. Any insight on this problem and what it could be?

With regards to the engine revving, and then the car catching up with the revs, that sounds like a clutch related problem, either the clutch is worn out, or the release bearing / pressure plate is failing.
What engine does the car have? and what power output? What year is the car and how many miles does it have on it? Any previous owners?

The second problem sounds interesting. I presume you can hear it with the car stationary and the bonnet up. If that's the case, the gearbox is be on the right hand side of the engine (i think) so the noise may be coming from that if there is a problem with the clutch / release bearing / pressure plate, and the two noises may be connected. Try pressing the clutch, and / or putting it in gear while the clutch is depressed and while holding it at 2000 RPM to see if the noise changes or goes away.
Else, it may well be a valve-train problem if, as you say, it sounds mettalic. Does it get louder the harder the engine is revved? Has the car always been serviced on time? is it driven hard? Is the oil level to the "max" mark on the dipstick?

I hope i have helped, and if you give me the info iv'e asked for, i may be able to help you further :)

First off thanks for the input :)

Its the 150 tjet 2008 model, with just over 120000km on the clock, so as mentioned it just had its full service and they did adjust the clutch so your suggestions are making sense since after the service is when it started happening. My other friend said it may be the clutch as well.

Oddly enough after about 3000rpm it goes away... which sort of kicks out that its a valve, but I just dropped it off earlier at the guy who did my service so I should know by tomorrow.

Gets louder as it revs, always been serviced on time, previous owner did drive it sort of hard(I'm second owner) I would say since he told me he got terrible mileage on it compared to what I get. Oil is max since its just been serviced.

TBH though I didnt think of revving it with the clutch pushed all the way in... but out of gear it does the same thing so I presume the result would be the same. The sound is definitely coming from the engine block though and on the right hand side (as you look at the engine with the lights facing you). I just find it odd because none of this was picked up when it was serviced but that was supposedly due to no error messages or warning on the cars ECU.

No problem :)

Right, so quite high mileage for the year then.. Hmm.. these cars have hydraulic clutches which are self adjusting (as far as i know) so that's interesting if the garage said that. Yeah, i'd bet on it being the clutch, especially given the mileage, and you say that the car has been given a hard time in its life.

As for this rattle, it could still be a sticking valve, or hydraulic lifter, which only occurs at around 2,000 RPM, as when the engine is revving higher it may be rotating too quickly to stick. If it is to do with the clutch however, you would notice the noise stop when the clutch is pushed in, as the clutch stops rotating. Try it :)

Yeah, garages these days don't tend to do anything unless there's something obvious, or a warning light. Not all garages, but most.

Good luck finding the fault anyways :)

As you said man... it was the clutch, you really know your stuff! Yup its odd since they adjusted the clutch at the service and didn’t mention anything then o_O So thank god my warranty is covering 80% of the costs, the flywheel is also needing to be skimmed, not sure why though(Not enough technical knowledge there).

As for the rattle, it was just a metal plate... which I'm grateful for of course.

All in all I rather have the clutch go now then when there car is out of warranty. Thanks again though Craig, I even told the guy who has my car you thought it may have been the clutch, he didn't even think that when I initially brought it to him!

So I'll be getting my baby back on Tuesday or Wednesday:worship::D

Good news all around then! :) Glad there covering most costs, but why not all the cost if it is under warranty? Though i suppose it could be seen as a wear and tear part.

The flywheel will be skimmed to make sure the new clutch has a nice smooth flat surface to "mate" to, and will stop any protruding bits of the flywheel taking chunks out of the new clutch. This will make it last longer, and stop any "clutch judder" you might otherwise experience :)

Good news about the rattle too! it usually something simple like that lol!

Anyways, glad i could help out mate, hope everything is back to norm after the new clutch goes in :) Enjoy many more happy miles out of your Bravo!
