Hello all,

Title says it all really - I cant stop thinking about the GT. Sure its not the perfect coupe - I'd get either a GTV Cup or a Fiat Coupe if insurance permitted and I didnt run an 80 mile round trip everyday. I'm essentially tossing up the benefits of swapping my MJ 150 Sport Bravo for a GT - it comes down to the GT having the 'wow' factor and a presumably better drive, versus losing the niceties of the Bravo from a gizmo standpoint (i.e. the Blue&Me).

I cant decide if after a week I would regret it and want my toys back, or whether the novelty of owning a coupe would never really wear off. Anyone ever owned one of these or been ina similar position please? Cheers.

Hey Mate,

I own a 150Tjet Bravo and a 2006 Alfa Romeo GT 3.2..

The Bravo has more gizmos, nicer to drive in traffic and around the city and still can be very fun around some nice country roads..

The GT especially the 3.2 has a much better sense of occasion that the FIAT mine is fitted with KW Coilovers, Ragazzon DTM quad way Exhaust and autodelta carbon fibre air filter and it sounds unbelievable and the handling is also much better than the bravo.. The xenons on the GT are great.

Completely different cars, My Wife uses the Bravo as the daily drive and the GT is our weekender as the fuel economy is terrible on the v6 but well worth it on a nice day with the windows down hearing it scream down the road.

Performance wise my Bravo as it has the TMC box and Exhaust is probably doing the 0-100 in around 7.5 sec and the GT 3.2 is approx mid to lows 6s to the 100 both are fun in very different ways. The Bravo is easier to drive fast but the GT as its very rev happy is very rewarding as its much happier near the redline that the FIAT..

Either way you go they are both great cars..

Oh and the GT does get much more attention..

Personally, and just from an opinion point of view, you'd be taking a step down if it is your only car. Sure it is a beautiful car, much much much more so than the Bravo, but the GT was on sale in what, 2004ish? So you have a car that was designed around 2001. The Bravo on the other hand was still just a twinkle in the designers eye when the GT came out. Bear that in mind, as the car will feel more dated. Although it isn't as pretty and more cumbersome, the Brera would be less of a shock to the system I'd imagine.

was going to say yes to the fiat coupe 20vt until i see you doing 80m a day. (I just bought one as a second car!! :) so much performance for so little money, but it does drink fuel, mine do around 19mpg!!!)

You don't say where you live, but Mangoletsi at Knutsford in Cheshire have about half a dozen GTs on their forecourt, the oldest being a '05 going up to an '09'. They are based on the 156 which has been around since about '99 so that makes them even older than previously mentioned.

But, Mrs. Beard has a Y plate 156 2.0 Veloce and apart from 35mpg could be a good choice. It certainly isn't a track day weapon but holds the road well and enjoys smooth inputs, as befits a "GT" type coupe.

If you find one with the 1.9 diesel then that could solve any economy questions you might have and still give you enough performance.

Although I like the Bravo and think it deserves more success, the GT is the more mature choice that you can park on the street yet doesn't shout STEAL ME but you could also take to a black tie do and not feel inferior to any flash motors there.

Hey thanks for the comments folks, appreciate the feedback.

Yep, you're probably right - I did this with my phone not so long ago - I had an Android device that I sold and bought the equivelantly priced iPhone. Not to start a phone flame war, but basically the like for like iPhone (in terms of cost) whilst being a bit posher was by far technically inferior and I ended up selling it and getting another Android phone. The other thing is that I searched the length and breadth of the country to get my car, over about 4 months, then spent 6 months putting it right - it owes me a bit more.

Maybe once my Bravo has close to 80k miles on the clock (probably only eighteen months or so) and I'm forced to replace it I'd look at a GT, but by then it will be a trazillion years old. The only other viable alternative as I dont particularly like the Brera is the 159 - its stunning to look at and represents sound value for money, plus it has all of the toys that I love. Sadly it just doesnt have the GT X Factor (I'm 23, cant be doing with a four door saloon quite yet).

One day when I wont have to sell a kidney to insure it I'll have to get my a GT Cup. Until then, I'll make do with my Bravo.:yum:

After being without B&M for a good week and covered a lot of miles I can't do without it now. Such a great gadget for a car! I plug my phone into it and have 16gb of music at my disposal, plus can call people easilly if I get bored.

dont do it man, its basically a 147, not that thats a bad thing, just the bravo is so much more refined, plus as said B&M, and windows that go up and down off the key....the alfa doesnt have that (standard) ;)

Guys,

I love my bravo tjet its an amazing car but compared to the GT there is no comparison...

The GT is a monster and makes you feel alive every time you drive it....

The bravo is fun and bit more comfy but around the twisties the GT is another league...

Either way you go both are awesome in different ways...

I was also looking at GT's before I bought the bravo 3 years ago. They're nice but really outdated even back then.

In my opinion there's a gap between cars that came out before and after 2007, the technologies have improved, the reliabilty is better and even the styling has evolved. The GT is too old and I wouldn't touch a previous generation alfa even if it looked like the 8c.

I totally agree with Tad and he didn't mean 8C is not sexy. It's the sexiest, as well as the MiTo, which is basically a small 8C. Very sexy.

And the GT was really outdated even 3-4 years ago, the Brera looks much better and is still more or less up-to-date in terms of design.

why dont you have alittle look into the 2.4JTDM 156 estates, or even the saloon. typical alfa styling, but a nice 175bhp 20v diesel, easily ramappable to 210bhp, and on bad runs you might still be getting high 30's or low 40's to the gallon..if i had the money id ditch my crappy 1.6 petrol for one of those in a heartbeat:slayer:

Yep I had one of those and it was great. Honestly though in lots of ways the Bravo is a superior car. These is something special about the Alfa though.

Thanks for the comments chaps.

I think I would only consider replacing the Bravo with a 159 - the Brera does nothing for me (to warrant the additional cost), not really sure why. I think its the same reason that the Scirocco doesn't excite me much either.

My input is that I was already just looking at my next car and the list was as follows... Alfa GT, Audi S4, Nissa 350/370z and oddly enough for me the 330 coupe or 335 coupe (never been a BMW fan) Ok so i went and did my research, this is with interior looks aside, all else taken into account. In that list the first car I actually knocked off was the Alfa GT, due to it being front wheel drive, having the worst fuel consumption out of all the cars (just abit less than a 3S) and also being way the slowest out of all of them with a 0-100 of 6.7... with a 3.2L v6 whats the point really? Anyways I ended up funny enough knocking all of the cars off except the 2 bmws, which both have very decent fuel consuption, both rear wheel drive and both faster and I would say better built even. All I can give the GT is that is looks sexy but other than that, underneath and inside its pretty rubbish comapred to the others in my list.

BMW 335i is a nice motor with the twin turbo engine, but with a rolling start and in gear the GT 3.2 can munch a 330 quite easily.. Install a q2 in the GT 3.2 and uprate the suspension and it becomes a much different beast and is 1million times sexier than any BMW...

:)
