Help please anyone!

The last couple of days i've noticed my 57 plate bravo has been occasionally hesitating when accelerating. Firstly I thought perhaps i'd imagined it as it was very subtle however yesterday I was moving off in 1st and had my foot right down, yet no acceleration. Also on the motorway, when pressing the accelerator it either speeds up immediately, or hesitates before doing it. There has been no warning lights on the dash but something is majorly wrong!

I initially thought it could be a sticky sensor on the accelerator pedal, but it does the same thing on cruise control so it can't be. Seems to be happening on some driving cycles and not others.

The car is under warranty, but I'm doubtful they'll be interested in this unless there is a warning light/I can prove something is faulty...

Does anyone know what this could be?

So long as its easily resimulated the dealer will take it for a drive and find it. they're your best port of call as it'll be a dealer job anyway by the sounds of things.

I had the same problem once in my 90 1.4 but I got warning lights. I'll see if I can look out the thread when I'm home from work to see what they said.

happened to my 08 plate bravo sport mjet - the driveshaft also another item were changed, fortunately i have a 5yr fiat warranty on mine...

Got in the car tonight.. it refused to accelerate at all. Got moving but there was no power then suddenly it fired into life after a few hundred metres. Decided to head back and take the other car as don't want to take the risk.

Still an egr valve? Really not happy as I'm traveling the length of the country tomorrow and my partner also needs a car!

cheers for the help guys. I'll have a go at it tomorrow then. What tools/cleaning products do I need?

I just needed a socket set on my Clio, not sure for the Bravo.

Leave it soaking in some petrol and them attack it with a toothbrush. Make sure it's bone dry with just soot, any oil could indicate failing turbo seals.

Also clean the inlet too (with the toothbrush) otherwise as soon as you stick it back on and fire it up it will clog up.

i had this i cleaned up the boost sensor and the egr valve was great again afterwards took about half hour

thanks again for the replies.

As I've never done anything like this before, would someone mind giving me detailed instructions on how to find and clean these parts? cheers!

just removed and cleaned the egr. The problem is still there... it's like the throttle pedal isn't responding quickly enough.. revs are very sluggish.

what next do you think?

Try checking the hoses related to the turbo/intercooler/airfilter etc, they could have a rip or have become loose and cause your loss of power. Also, when have the fuel/airfilter been replaced last??

took the car to Halfords autocentre - as they do the warranty work for the RAC.

They said the diagnostics tool can't find a fault so it has to go to Fiat. They want to charge for the diagnostics though - I'm furious about doing this if they can't find a fault but the car is obviously not working properly!!!

Do I have to pay this?

main fault there would be "halfrauds autocenter" almost as bad as kwikfit, would touch em with a 10ft barge pole, does sound like a boost issue, don't get a whooshing noise do you when you rev it, that normally indicates a break in a hose somewhere

all fixed!

It was the EGR valve at fault - was staying open (not carbon related).

fixed under warranty and the car is back to normal....

It was staying open, so exhaust gases were being directed into the combustion chamber when they shouldn't... meaning no oxygen for the fuel to burn with. The fix cost £260 at a fiat dealer, I only went to the dealer as it was covered by warranty, if not I would have gone to a cheaper garage.

Well had the car back from the local Fiat Dealer and it is all clear...
All perameters checked and EGR Valves Etc checked and there is no problem with the engine, so it all myst be in my head...lol :p
Whats more they only charged me £45 and even washed and vacuumed my car for me.. And !!! they picked it up from my home and delivered it back to me for that aswell.. Result (y)
