Hi All,

Sorry I ain't too clued up in all things car-wise.

Drive a 57 plate Fiat Bravo 1.4 active.

Got this message flag up on my dash. Does this just mean that my car needs oil?

Apologies if this has already been answered, I tried a search but came up with other finds not linked.

Thanks in advance.

Lift the bonnet and pull out the dipstick, and use it to check the oil level.

You can get the low oil pressure warning if you stall the engine. Is that what happened to you?

I have also received this message before. However, it happened when I stalled the car and quickly tried to restart it. It has never shown up again.

Hi guys,

Thanks for that. The oil was very low, so I've topped it up, will see how that goes.

Cheers all for quick response.

You should really check your oil at the very least once a week. 2 minutes of your time costs ALOT less than if the car has no oil and the damage that would cause. You got away lucky this time.

Yeah thanks.

I do know it should be checked weekly. I guess 2 mins at a weekend ain't gonna kill me as much as the cost of a new engine.

How much did I put in? Well if I read correctly, I'm sure it says the capacity is 2.75lts, I put in 2.4 (sure that was the size of it, not 2.5).

I am assuming that you had to put in around 2.4/2.5ltrs of oil because this is what was required to bring your oil back up to between the min' and max' markers on your dip stick? I can't remeber what the Bravo took regards oil capacity from when I had mine.

If not and you have just assumed that your oil was almost empty because your light had come on then you may have over filled your engine with oil. this can be just as bad as no oil in the engine. Check your oil level using your dipstick immediately and remove or add oil as required in order to achieve the correct level in the engine.

Secondly. If you did check your oil level correctly and you were required to top up as your oil level was almost at 0 then I would be investigating this further also and not driving the car as losing that amount of oil (it all pretty much) between services is not right either.

Hi All,

No warning light came on.

When checking the engine oil, it looked right down at the minimum.

I had the vehicle serviced in Janaury. I also do around 400-450 miles per week.

No lighty? So how did the message "Insufficient Engine Oil Pressure Warning" show itself, on the body computer maybe? Either way you cant be slap-dash about lubricant, coolant and brake fluid, you need to be on the ball....

Either way you seem to have a problem. Loosing all your oil inside 8 months isn't good. My Bravo never lost any oil between services and I did at least the same mileage per week as you if not more often some weeks. I'd get it checked before some major damage to the car happens.

I do the same about 500 miles per week, same engine 1.4 16v, in the 9 months and 10,000 miles I've had the car I've only had to top it up once, thats with checking it once a month

just have a look see if you can't see any oil leaks anywhere, do seem to be awfully high oil consumption
