Hi All,

I've just bought me a 2008 Bravo 150 Sport model after what seems like an age of searching (pics to follow). Unfortunately, I've realised that the master programming key is missing. I do have the flip key and the spare key however.

What are the implications of this please - can I get both types of replacement key made from the originals? What happens if I lose both keys (unlikely, yes) - does the car become a £7k paperweight? (n)

TY.:worship:

Dont think these have a master key, each key is programmed into the car via diognostic port (plug in a computer).
If all keys are lost, its not the end of the world. Call a good autolocksmith and he will programme in the new key which is ordered by vin number, from the dealer.

No master key. Both our Bravo's came with 1 flip key with remote locking and 1 standard normal key.

I thought Fiat stopped with the master key stuff before the Mk2 Punto came around in 2000?

You don't need either key to get a replacement. Just go to your friendly helpful Fiat dealer, armed with car details and ( I assume ) proof of ownership. The car may need to be put on examiner. Best not to lose your keys!

Thanks guys, this lifts quite a weight off my chest. Can I just ask why the Code key is mentioned in the book then please - please see attached screenshot below:

Pics as promised (the Show Off Your Bravo thread is locked?) - only the ones used to advertise the car, proper 'arty' pics to follow (y)

I don't have a card. I was told the UK insurance companies want to make it hard for criminals to get hold of keys, hence Fiat hold the details on their database.

These cars are whats known as code two systems and do not have a master key. as was pointed out earlier only pre 2000 stuff had a master key ( code one )

And yes you do need a code to prog a new key, and these days the codes are not now supplied with the cars, but are obtained when needed via the dealers and yes they do charge for it. i cannot remember when they stopped supplying them with brand new cars, but you used to get two cards, one for the radio and for the immob code with key number!

So i guess just like was said earlier it became as bit of a security issue

That's the single most asked question by people buying a new FIAT.

It's only been about 10 years since their cars stopped coming with these, so you'd think they would have updated the handbooks by now!

Ah, fair enough then - thanks, no more questions today! (y)

Just to put a few minds at rest. The only person that needs the codes is the person programming in a new key at the time of programming.
The code has no use anyother time so dont be to bothered if you cant find the card/code.
If Fiat dont give out the code with new vehicles anymore, its because they no full well, customers will buy these when needed. It has absolutly nothing to do with security. How can it ?

the codes are held by the retainer group (you should have got a letter from them about 2 weeks after buying your car) only a fiat dealer can obtain the immobilizer and radio codes. The only way to program a new key is to use the fiat examiner and all keys must be presented or they will be deleted from the system and will no longer be able to start the car (you will be able to use the key to get in the car though). A new key isn't gonna come cheep so mu advice don't loose them.

Retaina Group being the people that operate the International Security Register (www.theISR.org) - there should be a sticker with a phone number about this on the inside of one of the front side windows. Used to be on both side windows but appeared to change to just one window a couple of years ago, probably saves a few quid.

But basically like others have said, Code Cards are no longer passed to owners & since the Mk2 Punto was launched, all Fiats have had just two blue (or more recently) black keys. The red key is only something to look out for on Mk1 Puntos, Mk1 Bravo/Brava, Marea etc.

There are other machines that can do this. Autolocksmiths use them . Usually cheaper than going to the dealer

A couple of years ago Mercedes were taken to the european court over ownership of codes.
Basically the jist of the case was If you buy a car, the code belongs to the car so you would assume you own the code. Merc at the time were charging a small fortune for keys and codes. May be wrong but £1200 to £1500 was mentioned, although this may have included the keys.

I believe when your paying the dealer for the code, you actually paying an admin charge and the code is free.

Thanks, the folks at my friendly local garage have now confirmed all of this. Im not especially bothered by this, just so long as I wasnt supposed to get the code I dont mind not having it.
