hey all!
this is a pretty random thread, but basically im just interested in peoples' opinions on the fastest of the Bravos, the 2.0 Mjet 165!
what is it like to drive? can you consider it a proper sporty car? most of all how much do you love it?!?!

I've just bought one today! I'm so excited to pick it up next Tuesday.

I love it. Driven it once and was completely sold. I wanted one of the sport models, so it was between the 1.4 t-jet, the 1.9 multijet and the refined 2.0

Although, I was torn between staying petrol and going for a 1.4 t-jet but after driving the 1.9 multijet and feeling the torque from the diesel I thought it would be worth giving the 2.0 a go. It's a bored out version of the 1.9 but its been 'overhauled'. The emissions are better, the tax band was cheaper and its actually cheaper on my insurance. Driving it was superb, couldn't release its full potential due to salesman in car - but I shall let you know by next week!!

Long story short, after researching reviews of all the engines for the sport the 2.0 is definitely the best; financially and performance-wise.

I hope that's of some help!

I've had my 165 Sport for 5 months now, and covered 7500 miles since then. Previously I had a 2005 Alfa 156 JTD Sport (150bhp), the Bravo is noticeably quicker, in fact it's still loosening up and getting quicker. As with any diesel, it's not lightening quick from standstill, but through the gears it's very drivable and I have a blast on my 15 miles commute up and down the Clydeside (nice, fast country road with sweeping bends). It handles pretty good, without the ride being harsh.

I'm really impressed with the car, and struggle to find fault with it. I thought I would miss an armrest, which is not available in Spirt trim but I've never missed it.

One niggle, fuel consumption. Although I drive hard, I'm not that bad and used to get around 45mpg out of the Alfa in everyday driving, more if I was sensible. I struggle to get near 40mpg in the Bravo. I have tried driving by the 'consumption-ometer' for a full week (zero-ing the trip at start), changing gear early and doing my best to be sensible and economical - I got to 43mpg!!! Now I just think sod it, I may as well put a bit of speed on because driving sensibly only gained me 3 mpg.

Waiting on my Blue and Me adapter to arrive for the iPod (good buy on eBay £52.99), I use a Mac so all my music in AAC format - I hope this will solve the problem.

In all, the 165 Sport has been a great buy, mine was pre-registered so got a really good deal. It was hard to say goodbye to my lovely Alfa, but the Bravo is well up to the job as a replacement.

You'll find that the 2.0 loosens up nice and is very quick if pushed and you waft along under a huge amount of torque. A lot of people haven't quite found the real world mpg to be quite like the figures, but then again the real world speed (especially motorway cruising) is undersold.

Have a look at some of my other posts or DPF based posts. Mine is from March 09 and about 13-14k miles in and is beginning to show a bit of a design flaw here, loss of power, lots of forced re-generations of the DPF and that is despite my 35 mile each way commute on quick rural roads. I know a lot of other brands have DPF issues, but just something to be aware of (sorry).

I do in general really like my car, it's looks, the equipment level and the prices, despite un-predictable internal rattles!

You must have a lead foot! I get between 48 and 52 depending on how I drive, although to be fair they are so close to each other I must drive like a granny most of the time ;-)

I have had my 165 since the end of Feb this year. It was an ex-demo and it is a great car the engine is still loosening up after 7500 miles but its is a good car and does handle better than I thought it would just not as good as my old ZS.

I'm currently getting around 44MPG thats a commute over hills and around very twisty B-roads, I was only getting 39MPG but I have managed to improve it although I think it is more due to the engine still loosening up.

The car itself is comfy enough the climate control is great and works really well, the blue and me stuff is useful. In gear acceleration is fast but I'm thinking its going to be a bit of a tyre eater.

Out of the cars I have recently owned I'd say its not the best for a couple of reasons it feels a bit disconnected form the road at higher speeds and the room in it isn't great and it has a few build niggles, but it still is a overall a good car and it does what I need it to do, very much like the old MG a love hate relationship.

only getting 36 mpg in mine after 10k, must be my driving style, was only getting 26 mpg in my alfa 147 2.0

Hi, just wanted to say that I have had my 2.0 m-jet . And I am totally over the moon with it. Had a 1.4 petrol before. Just wondering if anyone has considered egr blanking? I'm told it would improve my mpg and run better? Anyone tried it?

Thread resurrection time folks :slayer:

I've had my 2.0 for a couple of months now and get about 500ish miles to a full tank. Also struggling to keep it around 45 mpg. I had a 1.9 a couple of years ago and it was a bit better.

One thing I think is wrong is the fuel gauge. I brimmed the tank last week, went for a drive and had only done about 40-50 miles before the needle had dropped by about a fifth which I thought was weird, still managed to do about 440 miles before the light came on right enough but the quick drop on the needle made me worry slightly at first.

I find I can get more in my tank when the car is facing downhill, but only about 2 or 3 litres, Depends wher I fill up. However, even with th lowest fiillup, it about 40 miles before the needle starts to drop, and at least 80 miles to the first 1/8 used.

the downfall with the 2.0 tdi is that it is fitted with the dpf which is a bit restrictive on the power and performance of the engine.

it would be alot better without the dpf fitted.

dpfs can cause alot of trouble if the car is used on relatively short journeys most oftenly as they tend to get clogged up rather quickly then which then also puts more stress and strain on the other parts such as the egr

I've got one of the Blue & Me Ipod adapters hanging about in my glovebox! I would have sent it to you for a £20 + postage!! If anyone else wants this please let me know. It came free with my MiTo and I've never used it...

As for the 165T, an absolutely superb car and superb drive. The diesel engine is so much more refined than the 1.9. Forget the DPF filter, as long as you give it a good long blast every few weeks it will be fine! All new cars are now being fitted with DPF's anyway and you can get them removed by specialists, but it is important they know what they're doing.

Really, really recommend getting one. Very quick but also an excellent cruiser. It feels much lower also, I have the standard 18" alloys and it is much lower than my MiTo which also sat on 18's. This helps make it feel even sportier.

I get about 50 - 52 mpg on motorway runs at a steady 70 - 75mph and still about 44 - 46 around town with considerate driving! - Pretty standard figures for a 2 litre diesel.

I test drove a Mito 155 Veloce and it was nice, felt pretty much the same as a Punto Abarth, which in reality it is! Was nice but would have been 3k more than my new 165 for in my opinion less.

I do not understand why Mitos hold their value far far better than Puntos, they are effectively the same car.

and the majority ofparts are twice the price! - although they are the same! Just paying for a brand....

Just paying for a brand I guess and a load of jumped off service managers who think they are superior to everyone... in my experience anyway. I've never met such arrogant and rude people in service deparments. Well in Alfa dealers in Portsmouth and Bournemouth anyway. I was actually banned from the Portsmouth dealership by the jumped up slimeball service manager because I lodged a few complaints to Alfa UK (Fiat UK) about him, his attitude and the service they gave (or lack of).

It's amazing how Fiat can do absolutely nothing as almost every dealership is franchised. There excuse everytime I've had a problem, although the real problems have only ever been with the jumped up idiots at Alfa dealers. Fiat seem fine.

Sorry, just a bit of a bad experience with Alfa Romeo, hence getting away from them.
