My last car(seat altea 1.9tdi) used to take a full tank of diesel once every 10 days, my 59 plate bravo eco 1.6 multijet needs filling up very soon already after only 7 days (bought it last wednesday) and thats only doing 60mph everywhere, mostly motorway...
What kind of frequency are you guys filling up with normal driving and what should i expect in reality?
Also im not used to having 6 gears, when's the best time to engage it ie: 70/80 mph or is 60 good too?
cheers

Mine goes into 6th at 40! You cant just compare the length of time between refills, did your Seat have the same size tank or was it bigger?

Was the tank full when you started out? I mean really full. Not too sure about the fuel gauge accuracy, usually moves quickly on mine but today didn't move untill I had done 50 miles.

How many miles has the bravo done? Is it fully run in yet? Have you got extra weight in the car? When do fill up? The 'red' is actually a big segment, bigger than Seat's I believe so you will might be filling up earlier, but less fuel each time.

yes , tank is full to the brim with the seat, got about 60-70 miles before the needle moved, no extra weight, and driving at steady 60 (ocaisionally 70-80), bravo has now got 2000 miles on clock, so would you say its settled in yet?
how long do you say i have when the needle hits the red..100 miles?

a tank lasts me 550 miles on mixed driving (just going into when it goes --- on the range so could do a few more). i find that mainly motorway will see 600 or more (most is 662), or to and from work and lots of town i see down to 500 miles.

i dont calculate in days how long it lasts i usually go on how far as i can go from 2 days doing 500 odd miles, to 2 weeks only covering the same amount etc.

6th gear can be engaged without labouring the engine in mine at around 45ish mph but i have the 150bhp engine.

How many miles has it got on the clock?

2k on the clock means it isn't run in fully yet. It should get better and better untill around 10-15k. When fully run in I would expect it to do 600-700miles between fill ups (1.6 Eco).

On our golf and my old skoda the needle doesn't move for ages, than it moves quickly. Makes you think you are doing much better than you are!

On the red I would say around 50-100 miles depending on driving style. Some reckon you'll get 30ish more after the needle hits the bottom, but I'm not brave enough to try! My 1.9 120 generally gets around 550 from 50 litres, 5 gears only though.

All this is totally meaningless. Why don't you guys work out miles per gallon? Tanks vary in size from car to car and so are a useless way of comparing consumption.

Ok, mpg is around 50 for me, cross country A and B roads over the Lincolnshire wolds, so a little hilly in places. Altea and bravo tanks will be very similar, 55-58 ish litres. So comparible in my view in this case. Besides the question was asked in relation to time between fill ups, we moved on to miles per fill up.

I've recently change job and I have to pay for my own fuel. (first time in 3 years!!!)
Anyway, I'm doing around 120miles a day on motorway, in the past two weeks, I drove my car within the speed limit and my 150mjet computer tells me I'm getting 57mpg and I work it out, it was around 53mpg in real life, the 1.6 should be even better, give it another 5-10k miles and make sure your tyre pressure is correct and don't carry anything you dont need. (England flags anyone?)
