Evening...the last 10-14 days I've noticed a real sort of creaking coming from my driver front wheel when I corner to the left - mainly turning into junctions or driveways and very often over broken speed bumps (the ones used on a bus route - you can drive over them fine at 15mph or less but folk still insist on driving over the very middle with one side of the car!).

Anyway, I can't seem to get the noise happening doing anything else i.e. heavy cornering to the right and the other 3 wheels don't make this sound...any ideas?

My worry is it's a wheel bearing on the way out...but I've no idea.

Car is in for it's service (54k service with only 25k on the clock) in 2 weeks time, I'm needing to add this to the list of things to check (including) -

indicator doesn't stay on when turning right - suspect due to steering wheel not being centred, but we'll see what the say;
my rear lights have real bad condensation on them after being wet i.e. washing car/raining or a frost - not convinced this is meant to happen as it suggests moisture has got in behind the cover/housing;
My grille badge and boot badge are both clouding - not a major issue as the car is rarely showroom clean but again it looks like moisture has got in behind the 'cover' of the badges.

Anyway, sorry thinking out loud there...the wheel noise is the one I'm most concerned about...wheel nuts appear to be tight and solid and the brakes appear to work and there are no leaks under the car...so not sure.

Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated, thanks.

jack up the car and spin the wheel by hand. if you hear grinding sound, than it is bad wheel bearing. while you'r at it try to shake the wheel left/ right. there must be no play. if there's play, could be bad rod end.
than lower the car on the ground, remove the jack and push down front driver part of the car few times (squeeze.the suspension). if there's sound, could be the bearing on the shock.
i suggest you also remove the wheel, inspect the disc and the thickness of disc pads.

@DickBarton: Did you find it to be a wheel bearing problem? I have a smiliar problem but from the driver-side front wheel and thought I would check before I get the jack out!

Cheers,

Tim

Hi,

I put the car in for it's MOT not long after this post and they found some wear that was advisory...I called the garage and they asked to see it and it got a warranty replacement.

Since then, when the noise comes back, I give the car a wash, check the wheel nuts and check the tyre pressure...apart from a shinier car, the other 2 things don't ever need changing but the noise does go away...

Sorry.
