I remember someone else had the problem recently, but I can't be bothered to look myself

Well you will probably find that the error/fault lies with either the brake pedal switch or the clutch pedal switch. A quick trip to your local dealer will cure the problem with a little adjustment and reset of the ABS system error memory.
