I used to own a mini cooper and was told by a mechanic that the engine/computer could be re programmed (i dont really understand the mechanics of cars but it was something to do with changing the computer settings or wotever) to make it a mini cooper S engine performance style.

I now have a 1.4 dynamic 2007 fiat bravo with 90BHP and was wondering whether the same sort of thing could be done to the bravo to add more BHP. And if not, what would you suggest that I do to add more BHP, would like about 30BHP extra.

Thanks for any help

Yea with it not being turbo i think you will be very lucky to get 15 BHP on the map and more realistically 8-10 HP which for £300 i dont think its worth it

Looked at this with a different Fiat..130hp Barchetta and no real deal. The only option was an Italian N-Power race ECU at €550 + fitting which gave 30Hp extra at the wheels. Downside is the unit isn't road legal...race technology. The insurance co went gaga when I asked for a quote..refused. Also the race units are very raw..designed to run the engine at full power with no frills and no consideration of fuel burn or engine wear. Frills in this case being loss of the EBD/ABS and the aircon. Loss of the ABS means an automatic MOT fail.

Only real option at realistic price (€ vs Hp gain) was to fit a complete new turbo engine. In this case a 16VT Coupe engine. 200Hp at the wheels and serious performance for a 1 tonne car.

Cost was horrible. Easily the value of the car when you factored in the cost of new brakes and new clutch and gearbox...

What you guys on about?
If you get a sports cam and lower compression pistons you can remap the pants out of a 1.4 naturally aspirated engine. I know a guy who has 1.0 hyundai getz (worst car ever imo) and his uncle works in a garage and he got him to up the engine components and remap it and it went from around 60hp to 125bhp!! O.O

I'm getting engine work done to my 1.4 (90) after new year. It already puts up a fair play to a lot of more powerful cars anyway, so results should be good.

P.S. Yes, I know it would be cheaper (sort of) to buy a tjet, but the insurance is still steep on that for my tender age of 19, plus i've already modded this car quite a bit, so i'd lose out on quite a lot of time and money spent.

You got a Hyundai Getz from 60 to 125Hp with cams and a remap? 50% power increase?? Hyundai used Fred Flintstone as their engine designer, not the most suitable donor to chose. :ROFLMAO:

I have major difficulty with that one..that's a better power increase than most n/a - turbo versions. The old Fiat Coupe 20v na gave 130Hp at the wheels and the turbo did 210Hp and that was (is) one of the faster front wheel drive cars...

Post the dyno graph for the Getz please...

PS. I can't do simple maths...

is £350+vat worth it to remap a mjet 150?

the guy said he could get me 198BHP with 395NM and do it at my work place.

He said it will take between 2-3 hours.. does all this sound right?
BTW no dyno run.

Quite expensive for a map without rr considering that tune for performance does it for quite a bit less with a rr before and after.

why not just do what i did and buy the 110bhp getz like i did then have it remapped to 140bhp for only £200 instead of all that cost in a bog standard 1.1 getz

FYI there is no 1.0 getz available :)

I don't really know the full story on the getz tbh, or if its even true. It's just what the guy from the warehouse next to ours was telling me. He's a pretty cool guy so I doubt he was lying. But yeah, I agree... a 65hp increase sounds a bit fishy.

I'll try and rat him out over the next few days of work :p so i'll ask him if his uncle can provide the dyno chart.

Why are you guys hung up on tuning an elderly Korean supermini? Performance is crap, 0-100Kmh in 10 seconds, top end of 180Kmh for the top of the range 1.6

Is this an exercise in tuning the impossible? Why not tune something worthwhile..Saxo or Corsa springs to mind

its my girlfriends car and if you can tell me that you can get a saxo for 110 bhp 180lb/ft of torque and £35 a year road tax then ill agree with tuning one of them :) this is the 1.5 crtd with the hyundai matri engine btw

Even worse..

1.5L CRDi engine 110 hp (82 kW) 0–100 km/h: 11.1 sec., top speed 180 km/ (112 mph)

I don't believe either that a remap will get you 140hp..the usual figure is 8-10hp max. The only way you'll get 140Hp is major engine surgery, new injectors, ECU etc. Then you are into new clutch & brakes. The result of all this will be a peaky beast, with a tiny usable powerband and even worse handling than at present.

Also your insurance company will hate you for it..inspections, engineers reports and probably cover limited to TP only if at all.

This thread on remaps owes an lot to Max Power (their sticker in the back window is worth at least 200bph) and optimism over pints in the boozer.

Forget about the cams. You should get the 150 turbo, which is 450 pounds on exchange.

so your saying i would only get 8-10bhp from remapping a 1.5 turbo diesel jeez thats gotta be the worst remaped diesel in history if thats all you get from it

Did a quick google search on this. Some of the adverts claim 30% possible, some claim 20%. The more lurid the advert (RaceChip Tuning has a topless bird on their page), the higher the power output claimed.

Looking at these the average claim for the plug n play boxes seems to be about 10% increase. So with your car you'd be looking at approx 120Hp and paying €200 for it.

Also factor in a whopping premium increase from your insurer. If you don't declare, have an accident and they find out they WILL walk away from covering you.

Cheapest way to get more power from your car is sell it and buy one with more poke as standard.
