Hi Folks.

Just wanted to share a recent ‘problem’ with my 1.9 Multijet (120 Version).
Had noticeably less power than usual between 1500-2500 rpm on the way into work this morning (Was quite embarrassing pulling away from junctions, lights etc.) Managed to limp into work. Checked all hoses etc at lunchtime, nothing loose. But noticed that the fuel filter connectors were slightly lifted and pushed them back down (made a click when pushed). Went for a drive and power had returned! All is well again!:) Could the fuel filter have been the problem? I’m not sure if the 1.9 8 valve has an EGR valve so I’m hoping that this is the answer as the car is an ’07 plate. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

well if the pipes were kinked in anyway the engine might of been getting starved of fuel... your lucky it didnt just cut out when you put your foot down if it was the fuel filter causing the problem

If the power has returned though after you sorted that out.. that must of been the problem well i would of thought so..

out of interest where abouts is the fuel filter on the bravo?

Fuel filter connections do not just unclip themselves!

I to have noticed my diesel filter connections are lifted but not to the extended of unclipping, theres say a 1cm of movement which is normal, as soon as pressure is present the hoses lift up a little.

Are you postive you heard a click.
As anyone been under your bonnet lately?

I dont think you have resolved your issue.. take it to the dealer for a diagnostic scan.. its free and worth it.

Hi All.

Thanks for your comments.
Have booked it into the dealers, a 'Check Engine' warning has appeared.
Happened when me & the missus went to York for the weekend.
Lost power crossing Northumberland National Park:eek: Wasn't much fun!
Will let you know the diagnosis, hopefully won't cost much, might still be under warranty.(y)

Just a quick update.

Turns out it was the EGR valve! A new one is on order, expecting it tomorrow and it's all covered under warranty:) Have heard many stories about the EGR valve failing on 1.9Mjet 150's but not on the 120.
Anybody else had this problem with their 120?

i think i need to get mine booked in for the Egr vlave as well then.. see if they can sort out my little loss of power that i have been getting on the motorway sometimes..

TMC opened the light up for me on the matter earlier in one of my other posts. About it not recirculating the gas correctly and maybe causing it to regenerate more often... its worth a try and i might get it booked in for them to just have a look at it... shame mine doesnt have no warning lights as that would help alot.

lol you could always unplug the EGR valve and start it so it brings up a fault, then plug it bk in and goto the dealers ?? i did this because they wouldnt change mine ages ago! i was getting intermitten power loose but it wouldnt show a fault.

Hi Folks.

Got my car back on Friday! Back to normal!(y)
It's amazing how 1 valve can make such a difference to the performance.
I was going to book mine in as I knew I was loosing power, but was glad I waited until I got a warning light. Best to put up with it until you get a warning, that way there is no dispute with the dealer. Or as Hellcat says, unplug the vavle connector to make the fault appear, then plug it back in. The fault is logged into the system. Mine didn't go into 'limp-home' mode, I just had no power!

so when you say no power was it incredibly slugish or did it just come on slowly? i think mine could just do with cleaning.. pretty hard to find my EGR valve though.. i think its down the back of the engine.. i can see it (i think) but it would be pretty hard to get to to remove and clean if im honest without knowin exactly where the bolts are.

Working on 2 threads here!

No, there was just no power at all below 2,500rpm. It was embarassing pulling away from junctions etc. Buses would accelerate faster! But like you say once on the motorway and a bit of momentum built up it felt okay.

Hi BravoMark.

Not sure of the cost as luckily I had mine replaced under warranty!
However, depending on how many miles you have done, it could simply be a case of cleaning the valve out. Apparently it's prone to stop working properly due to soot build-up. There are plently of threads on FF for EGR problems. Think it's located under the main engine cover so should be fairly easy to access. Let me know how you get on.

Cheers!

Could i clean the valve out DIY style? I'm good with taking things apart and back together again.
Could someone please tell me where the EGR valve is on my car? It's a 1.9 16v 150bhp version.
I'm surprised this wasnt picked up at the service a few weeks ago, they suggested a clean air filter, that didn't work.
Also, is it bad to use the car while i have this problem? I need it for monday to do about 30miles.

Just had a look and dont have a star driver so wont be doing it myself.

Could someone tell me if its bound to lead to bigger problems if i use my car tomorrow?

Don't think a 30 mile trip will make any difference - I travelled a couple of hundred miles with this fault. You sure its the EGR? If it's just had a service I would have thought it would have been noticed at the road test that is carried out as part of the service. I haven't any experience of cleaning the EGR as mine has been fine since it was replaced ( If it ain't broke don't fix it!).
As metioned earlier there are many threads throughout the forum for this.

I'm quite sure. Ive got the same symptoms as everyone elsewith EGR bother.
Its been there for about a month intermittently.
I dont think an average of 300 miles a day for 12 days driving to Italy and back in the summer will have helped?
Oh and it wasn't road tested at the service. Much to my annoyance.
