Morning all, K4rls wife Emma here,
I drive a W Reg Bravo, well I NORMALLY drive a Bravo... last night the bloody thing packed up on me after the shift from hell at work in the middle of nowhere!
Karl thinks its the butterfly position sensor thats gone. Basically When trying to start the engine up it fires then makes a noise as if the battery is dead.
I have to tap the accelorator to get it to fire up, then sit with my foot on the revs to keep the engine ticking over. As soon as I have to slow down to go round a corner or for traffic lights it does. Basically it seems unable to tick over.
This morning Karls had a look and he thinks its the butterfly position sensor, I've rung our local fiat dealorship and they claimed not to know what i was takling about, apparently they dont have a part called that. The guy on the phone said he thought it was the stepper motor. Does this sound right or is he trying to sell me a more expensive part because I' m female?
He's quoted us £180, but to be honest, I'd rather sell the car than pay that amount! I'm not THAT enamoured to it!

Thanks for the helpfuil advice, as I say, Karls wife, not a normal user, Came into the correct forum for my car and as everyone else seems to be posting technical stuf in here I thought that was normal? Sarcasm was spot on though thanks,
As for the stepper motor, thats the name of the part, according to Fiat, and Bosch the manufacturer. The butterfly position sensor is the name of the sensor according to Fiat too (y) (taken from the manual).
Its a 1.2, I've just fitted the new stepper motor myself, and although its managing to keep the revs ticking over its still barely kicking out any revs when its in idle.
Any more suggestions?(Constuctive ones only please, dont think I can cope with anymore witty comments like the ones above )

You have posted in the wrong section, this was pointed out to you in a nice manner so please post in the correct section (from non-witty forum moderator)

butterfly position sensor =throttle potentiometer

Idle control valve or stepper motor. Not sure on that model, but I've never heard of a butterfly position sensor either!?

Oh, and you posted in the wrong section ;)

(y)

Thanks for your reminding.:)
