I have a 58 plate 1.6 eco diesel which is due in for its first service, has anyone heard of it being fitted with a special DPS oil filter which can only be changed once the service light comes on and Fiat have to reset the computer for you. I was told this my brother who works in the trade. I was going to have my service done by his garage for 60 quid as a favour but now dont want to have to pay more for the services of fiat. Anyone had this pointed out to them. Only found this out today and my car is booked in tommorow.

He can change the oil now, but having a DPF means it doesn't need doing yet. The DPF will let you know when the oil needs to be replaced.

Without the examiner though he won't be able to reset the DPF so it might show the oil as needing changing before it actually does.

does the DPF use the oil to clean its self or is it the exhaust heat? when i first got my car it didnt seem to have any problems on long runs now i just have the horrible juddering feelin for 10 minutes that people go on about when they say they are having problems with the DPF regenerating its self.

Mines due its service as well getting fiat to do it so they can have a look at the DPF at the same time in the hope that they can sort it out!

my car does the juddering but there is another post on here with a link explaining why it does it. Something to do with the excess carbon being burnt off.Thats part of the eco system. I took it to fiat cos of this problem and they had no idea why it was doing it. Fiat are weapons and dont know their own cars.I am going to take it back and make sure this is normal. If you go on the AA website it explains a bit more about DPF filters

this is what im worrying about with my car as well..

bassically i dont want the car back without it been sorted.. its not normal no matter what they say.. and when it does this regeneration lark in this most un smooth way it uses a hell of a lot of fuel to do it.. i think its overfuelin and thats why the engine judders because its been choked with fuel...

Have a read of the Owners book, it does actually mention DPF regeneration and that it will be less economical during that time....

pretty sure it doesnt mention that it makes the car judder though and the amount of fuel that it uses is stupid.. plus it does it every 100miles so really im never going to get a good run in the car since every 100miles i can be sure im gona loose quite alot of fuel for nothing..

the fuel isnt the main issue though it is the great loss of power and juddering that does my head in.

During DPF regeneration the engine changes the fueling to increase the heat from combustion to the levels that will burn off the carbon in the DPF. During this time it will run less efficient and less smooth.

The link in with the oil is that during the high temp running it will place more stress on the engine oil than under normal use. That's why the engine will ask for the oil to be changed after a certain number of DPF cycyles.

I guess you have done 18000 miles, as the Bravo only needs servising every 2 years or 18000 miles. As stated above the oil and fillter need to be change when prompted by the car and I belive on the 1.6 a warnning light is displayed when the DPS is regenerating so you dont switch off during the process

theres no light on mine when it does it.. just the horrible juddering..i cant even be sure it if the DPF but i cant think of anything else! i dont think its designed to run as rough as it does when it regenerates. it really feels like the car wants to stall like its chokin.

i can almost guarntee the garage wont find anything wrong with it again.. even though iv pointed them to the direction of the DPF.. they will more then likely stick it on the computer find that thers no fault found (which ther wont be anyway) nd they wil say theres nout wrong because the computer says so.

i bought the car with long journeys in mind its why i went for a diesel and if its going to have a choking fit every 100 miles because its "ment to" i think il have to get rid of it because it doesnt feel normal.
