Not had my 120 1.9 Mjet long (2-3 weeks infact) as im new to diesel's im not sure if this is common or not, I know the the plugs have to warm or something when starting, but when my engine kicks in, it really does kick in, with a jolt, is this normal? I find if i drive around stop i.e. to get cash out or something, and get back in it starts smoothly

Hi Chris.

My 1.9 120 MJet also sometimes gives a kick when starting from cold. The way to get round this I've found is to turn the ignition as you do to let the glow plugs warm and listen to the fuel pump at the rear. When it stops whirring start the engine, it starts a lot smoother. Must be something to do with priming the system before starting.

I've got the same model. When I first got it, 14 miles on the clock, it behaved just as you describe. I'm now up to 8000 miles, and cold starts are pretty much the same as warm. The only thing I find about cold starts on warm days is that I think the glowplug light goes out too soon, and its better to wait a few seconds before trying to start.

mine did the same i have a 120T i find that warming the plugs a few times i.e turning the key on n off the back on again then starting the engine it starts alot smoother

I have exactly the same thing with my MJet 120, and I've got 30k miles on the clock. As the guys above say, just leave the glow plugs to do their work. Before the Bravo I drove a Punto JTD, and that started smooth as a nut every time without having to wait for the glow plugs

Maybe the plug system is beating the fuel pumps for getting ready?

Give it a few seconds extra and see if that gives you a smoother start.

hi mines the same 120T and i lernt to turn the key before the click and starts 1st time.

We get this on GP Mjet 130's too (Same Engine), dont forget to pop the clutch down while you start.

FIAT may replace your earth straps & battery if it continues too.
