I've read some interesting questions on another thread about the Skydome so I thought I'd share some wisdom about this option on the bravo.

bravo07.jpg

First, this is a very nice factory option (can't be added after purchase of the car) and I recommend it to anyone looking to buy a bravo despite the little niggles I'll point out later, it's a very reliable tinted glass sunroof that allows to see the sky from the rear and front seats and is electrically operable to open in three stages.

When it's open, you can drive up to 50 mph without much wind noise thanks to the built in wind deflector that pops up when you open the roof.

When shut, you can drive up to 120 mph without a problem. Above that speed, the wind starts pushing the rubber seals producing an annoying whistling noise. (any high speed freaks will want to install an after market wind deflector)

The performance downside to the Skydome is slightly more body roll due to the added weight of the glass and higher center of gravity of the car. (as an opposite example, the big innovation of the new BMW M3 is the super light carbon fiber roof, making the car's center of gravity lower and improving its handling prowesses)

The only solution to body roll : Lowering suspentions.

If you ask me, the improved looks of the car and the advantage of a large sunroof outweighs (pun intended) the little minuses on the performance side.

Little tip for Skydome owners who might not know : when opening the canvas cover, you need to hook the handle to a little notch at the back to avoid rattling. (have a look then you'll know what I'm talking about)

Please stay on topic when replying or asking questions.

re: Skydome Q&A

Thanks Tad-bravo. One question, I assume the canvas is not electronically operated?

I have a Croma at the moment and that's electric.

My Bravo is, hopefully, a couple weeks away (with the skydome sunroof).

re: Skydome Q&A

Correct, it's manual with a spring that rolls it in.
I always keep it open anyway, the tinted glass does a good job at filtering sunlight.

By the way, to open the canvas cover, you need to push the handle forward first to release it.

Hello Tad. I think u just answered to all my questions. Thnx a lot mate ;-)

re: Skydome Q&A

Just one more question Tad-Bravo. 120 mph means something like 180-190 kmh i suppose??

re: Skydome Q&A

Well as there are not many roads here in Greece to reach 190 i do not think i will have a problem :p
What about handling on a tight turn? Does it loose its stability because its top heavy?

re: Skydome Q&A

if the radio is on,not loud but on,you don't hear any noises up to 220km/h.
About the handling on a tight turn i can tell you that on ritsona(ριτσωνα)i didn't get any problems going pretty fast(uphill and down hill)

re: Skydome Q&A

Ftskamins thnx man :-D
That was exactly what i wanted to hear. :-D
Since u r Greek too can u tell me how is it with the heat during the hot months here? I have heard that with the skydome it gets hotter than without even if u close the cover.

re: Skydome Q&A

No problem when the cover is closed:)
In any case the bi-zone climate works miracles!!

Hi there, first post :)

Thinking about getting a new Bravo 150 Tjet and really like SkyDome thingy.

So I have a question on the "performance downside" you guys mention...Is there really any negative effect on the performance? I mean, has anybody tested it, or it's just an assumption, because the glass is a bit heavier?

I really can't believe a few more kilograms would make any difference, other than just statistical. And you guys even talk about lowering suspension!

Please, tell me my car will still accelerate in 8.2/8.5 from 0-100, cause I really like this feature. :)

I take it you mean KPH & not MPH for the 0-100 figure?

re: Skydome Q&A

Yep, km. As I also said "kilograms" and not...[that-hard-to-calculate-imperial-measure-that-you-strange-people-use]... :) But I think I'll have to get used with it...

Had the 0-100 been mph and not kph in 8.5 -8.2 seconds i would have been over the moon lol, cant help you with information regarding any sort of drag with the skydome, although i would think if it was open then that may have some influence, but then again i don't have that on my Bravo so i will leave the answer to someone who has:D

The thing is, it's not just about the added KG, it's more about WHERE they are added. when you make the roof that heavy, you add body roll (when cornering fast the car's body tilts due to centrifuge).

The acceleration should be about the same with or without the skydome.

As I said, it's not a big deal and it's not noticeable to the average person.
Just don't get anything less than the 120 or 150 BHP models. (with or without skydome)

re: Skydome Q&A

It will be the 150 for sure. And I'll probably not keep the dome open too often. I just want it cause I think it makes the car look so much better.

As for the corners - I am not into speeding in corners anyway, so this is not an issue for me, as long as I have the same pull in straight line.

Thanks for the answers.
