Re: Doors Deadlock

Well I can confirm Australian Ritmo has the deadlock... dam good feature if you ask me. Altho I dont have to double click to enable it, i just click an then can click again at any stage and it locks down.

Not entirely sure why this feature exists other than if your parking your car somewhere dodgy? Cause if you have an accident how would u get out if u deadlocked the doors? Altho I could see this being good for avoiding car jackings as they couldnt open your doors on you, alternatively it would also be a way to lock someone in your car if you felt the need.

There are obviously not the same level of 'dodgy areas' in Australia that we have in the UK! There are few places here that strike me as being safe enough to risk not using deadlocks if fitted.

I think the only way you can deadlock the car is through the remote & on alot of new cars you would lock the car when driving by pressing a button on the dash or by pushing the lock down (depending on vehicle). Some makes lock automatically when you drive off, but as far as i know they only do a basic lock, not the deadlock aswell, so if you were to have an accident, emergency services could still break a window & undo the door from the inside.

Deadlocks would potentially be a good idea to prevent someone leaning through your window in slow moving traffic & opening the door, tho i personally just lock my car from inside (no deadlock) & use the air con instead of opening the window in town.

Seems abit odd to add deadlocks only in certain countries, wouldnt have thought it saved alot of money by doing something like that, but maybe it does. It must be due to crime levels in the various countries, id image the Czech Republic has quite low crime. Id imagine that Sweden & Denmark do without deadlocks too.

I am ashamed to say, as I live there, but crime in CR is pretty high, especially car thefts or their robbing are unfortunately on the top in Europe. So I don't believe the crime level is the decisive factor for the deadlock inclusion.

It is decided by the level of consumers comfort usually expected in a particular country. Saying the Czech, post-communism country where 19 years back everybody was driving only Skodas. Unfortunately after 19 years it is still nothing special when comparing the same products but one destined for Germany is differently equipped than the one for czechs. I have also asked my dealer to justify the deadlock absence and I have been told more less the same explanation.

I think the idea is to deadlock it when you leave the car... not while you're driving it! Means they can't get into the car by smashing a window, then using the handle to open the door.

On my dads Bravo you must press it once to lock and then double press to enable the deadlocks, it was the same on his old Stilo!

Re: Doors Deadlock

Ok i went to my fiat dealer this mornign. Here is what he says :

"There is no deadlock. I looked in the manuals we have and it is not mentionned." I do not think he actually pluged the examiner on the car. I think i'll go in germany to see what they say here.
