Re: Diesel economy

Hi All.

Had my M-Jet 120 since March now and seems to give me the following average figures:

1/ Heavy Right Foot - Between 44-46mpg.
2/ Drive back and forward to work each day (round trip of about 40 miles on 'A' and 'B' class roads, lots of stops and starts) 48mpg.
3/ Long drives at the weekend (200 miles on motorway and 'A' class roads) up to 54mpg.

Diesels definately seem to prefer long monotonous journeys!

I love in a town on the A272, it's not a road it's a nightmare !!!

I used to visit friends in Devon, rather than crawl along the A272 I would happily either run along the coast and up the M3 or go up to the M25 and drop down the M3.

The 272 doesn't has passing places, but only if you are overtaking an asthmatic cyclist, they are too small for trucks, busses and tractors

Re: Diesel economy

I'd imagine there aren't too many 1.6 diesel owners yet , but I'm quite interested in whether the economy figures are achievable or not.

At the moment I have a 2.0TDI Octavia that up till about september last year was getting about 48mpg (true , not from the trip computer) but since the cost of diesel has risen so much I've been making more of an effort to save fuel. I've seen at least a 10% improvement in economy , but even at 54mpg overall I feel like I'm spending too much on diesel.

I know it will vary hugely depending on your driving style and the roads you use , but I am interested to know if 60+ mpg is realistic. It should be , but you never know....

Re: Diesel economy

1.6 was launched here very recently! My dad got his 1.4 in January and is seriously thinking of changing for the diesel before the year is out! We have new tax and vehicle registration tax based on co2, which makes the 1.6 105 the same price to buy as the 1.4 petrol (entry model) and only €100 to tax a year!! All the reviews have been very good so far!!

You must be travel on the wrong time, I do it at around 6:15am in the morning and there are hardly any traffic, but it could be a nightmare if you behind a tractor or lorry, however, there are at least 6-7 places you can over take safely, but you need to really know the road though, the M3 is quicker but the actual distance is longer.

Re: Diesel economy

Most of the roads I drive on now have 2 or 3 more places that I can pass safely just because the Bravo can zip past faster than my 130 Marea. I'd have looked before but worked out I didn't have the speed to get past before the risk of on-coming cars. I'd imagine a remap could make even more oportunities available without taking risks.

Re: Diesel economy

The GF came home in her Bravo last week, (1.9MJ Sport 150) from Halifax to Stokesley (80 odd miles) and averaged 62mpg. She said she was at 70 for most of the way.

Re: Diesel economy

My M-jet 120 has now done just over 11k miles and if I'm really really careful I can get 57mpg (according to the trip computer - probably ~55 mpg in reality). This has improved steadily over the past 2-3000 miles as the engine beds in.

Re: Diesel economy

I am up to 4500 miles now and still only getting 44 mpg.
I think Fiats claims of 68 mpg extra urban are greatly exaggerated.
my journeys are three quarters extra urban.
I am now starting to regret swapping the 5 cylinder Alfa 2.4 for the Bravo. I was getting 40 mpg from that (when it was'nt broken down that is).

Re: Diesel economy

I have my multijet 150 remapped to 194 bhp and the computer is telling me i get average of 50-52 mpg on full tanks 60 % town and 40% long but if i start racing TDI's and ST2 focus's I only get 45 mpg racing the ST2 was fun thought he must have bee gutted he wasnt able to get past my dreaded diesel fiat he was only able to just stay at the same speed as me along side me no faster and no slower ......
