Technically still hasn't broken down..

..but today I got the dreaded "Check Engine" message followed by the car driving like a N/A diesel. Can't get it into a garage until Wednesday, is it ok to drive in limp about like a 1.4 Active mode

Re: Technically still hasn't broken down..

you shouldn't even start it if you have no idea what's causing the problem.

you could do great damage to the engine and your dealer would tell you it's your fault for keeping driving it.

Re: Technically still hasn't broken down..

It's obviously still running and starting - so I'm confident it's not dropping its oil, or pushing a piston out the side of the engine. The guy at Fiat said it might clear after a few starts - not exactly "don't start - it might kill it"

Re: Technically still hasn't broken down..

My friends Stilo MW did the same thing when it had MAF sensor fail. Kicked out a load of black crap at the same time which kinda spooked me - Stilo did the same. Actually what more spooked me was it did it as I pulled away from a standing start across a main dual carriageway... wasn't quite the umph I was expecting!

Do you know if there is a number of start/stops which will clear an error or is the bravo more of a 'test it right there and then - if it's still there it's still reported'?

Re: Technically still hasn't broken down..

Well then... Cooling fan 2 open circuit.

Call has gone off to Fiat UK as they've checked pretty much everything from fuses to relays to harness to fan. Only thing they haven't changed is the ECU. Till then I'm driving my 40bhp Diesel

Would be a laugh to have it RR'd. Wonder if I'd qualify for cheaper insurance given its significant power reduction

Re: Technically still hasn't broken down..

Dunno, I got there at about 20past and they close at half past. Only had time to get keys and have a ever so brief chat with the service manager.

They're going to collect the car from my Work and tinker with it during the day. Not like I need it while I'm at work so that works for me.

Re: Technically still hasn't broken down..

40 seconds heh? That's about the same as my MJ150, since the price of diesel has gone through the roof - although mine is self inflicted!!!

Re: Technically still hasn't broken down..

Still not sort it? I will leave it to them to sort it out and a free loan car until it fix, it is danger to drive IMO.
