Reading the press lately about the Vectra replacement (Insignia?) I noticed they mentioned a pair of 2.0. litre diesels being on the cards for this car. Could these be new versions of the existing 1.9 MJ motors. The power outputs mentioned were no higher (I think) than the ones available in the Bravo. So, the question, bearing in mind that Saab have taken the new higher
output 1.9 MJs, is: Are these 2.0 engines that will soon be seen in FIATs as development of JTDm/MJ or have Vauxhall broken with FIAT and sourced their diesels elsewhere?

Pictures on Fiat powertrain website of the bi-turbo (surely it's bi rather than twin as the turbo's are not identicle ;))

They made quite a bit of noise about the 100bhp per litre so be strange to kill that before it's been fully utilised.

I'm sure you're right. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to the techy stuff

Being saved for Sporting/Abarth version? (y)

or

Idea scrapped after the accountants got hold of it? (n)

From what I understand, the 2.0 Multijet will be an upsized version of the 1.6, which is an all-new engine. I don't think that Fiat will be able to launch a multitude of different versions (think of how many different versions of the 1.9exist at the moment) at the same time, so it will gradually replace the 1.9 but I'm expecting it to start at about 130HP or even 136, above the 120 offered on the 1.6. I expect the 1.9 biturbo will be the last survivor as it also comes in a number of GM cars such as Opel, Saab and even Cadillac. The 1.9 will certainly stay with the Alfa 147 to the end as it's not worth the trouble of replacing and the same for any other Fiat Group vehicle that is about to be phased out.

Most Opel diesels not made by Fiat come from Isuzu and that may be where the new Opel 2.0 will be sourced.

As far as I know, SAAB now uses a 180 HP 1.9 bi-turbo made by FIAT, which kept a 190 HP version for use on their future models... Maybe some Alfa, who knows.

A 170 hp version of the 1,9 16V Multijet engine is available in the Alfa GT.

From what i've rad the 190 hp 1,9 16V twin-stage turbo should start production in june and be used in Alfas. It would, however, be cool to have that engine in A Bravo.

The 2,0 Mutlijet is still a few years away (and from what i understand, is a further development of the 1,9, while the 1,6 is further development of the 1,3).

I believe that the 1.6 has a cambelt , not chain, so I doubt it is developed from the chaincam 1.3.

I had understood it was a development of the 1.9, but I'm not certain about this.

As I said, it's just how I understood it, but it has, as you say, toothed belt and not a chain.
No matter, it's supposed to be a brilliant engine, so who cares if it's derived from one or the other. :)

OK, the new 2.0 MJET will debut with 165 HP in the Lancia Delta when it comes out in the near future. The 190 HP 1.9 MJET will be an option in the same car.

If you notice, the 1.6 MJET is limited to only 120 HP at the moment. No reason it could not make 160. And no reason the 2.0 could not make at least 200. I think the reason the 1.9/190 is being offered is that the R&D costs for this version have already been spent and FIat Group has to recoup this investment.

The Alfa 149 has been delayed (yet again) to the end of 2009 because of a major enhancement to the factory at Pomigliano (did I spell that right?). I think that this was one of the main reasons for the strike there that was mentioned on here a little while back.

You can already buy 2.0 Multijet in Poland. It is new diesel Sport version (there is nothing about GT). There is no more 1.9Multijet Sport - at least in Poland. It has 165bhp and 360Nm stock.

As for 1.9 twin turbo I would rather say it won't be sold in Fiat Bravo line. It doesn't match Fiat's targe at least for me. It is Rather Lancia/Alfa engine and it is expensive too. I am waiting or 1.8Di - this is gonna be nice :D

I wonder if they changed the clutch. If not it may mean it won't be good to tune it much higher than present 1.9Mjet IMHO.
